Not sure if you guys know this or if it was posted already but the latest changes in NJs inspection program may help out some of you guys.
As some of you may have seen recently NJ has changed its inspection sticker design yet again. The 2011 MVC stickers are purple, have one of about nine different images on the back side(buckle up, watch out for motorcylces, no cell phones, etc) and go back to the old system of just a number in the middle of the sticker. No more print out of make/model/vin/etc.
This is the first phase of a complete new system that is "supposed" to be fully online by the end of the year, including all new equipment for both PIFs and CIFs.
Heres where it may benefit some of you. Starting this april 1st, all private inspection facilities(and im sure central facilities too) have been instructed to cease use of the chasis dyno for emissions testing on pre-OBD cars(or cars that are OBD exempt). The new method, or at least the method untill the new equipment comes out is a 2500 RPM tail pipe test. The new equipment that is comming within the year has no plans for a dyno either so expect something similar for now on.
This may very well help alot of you out! Firstly since no one really likes watching their car driven on a dyno by someone other then themselves and secondly because without the road force of the rollers and your car under load there is a good chance alot of cars that would normally fail emissions may very well pass this 2500 rpm standing test.
Ill post up the exact E-mail that came over the inspection machines from the state so you all can see.
Hope it helps,
Talk to ya all soon!
