View Full Version : very strange noise with new drive shaft
ok, everyone here knows what i did to my stock aluminum drive shaft. i borrowed a stock steel one from a featherburner so that i could pull the car on and off the trailer and just be able to get it out of the way. i didn't drive the car any further than pulling it on and backing it off my trailer with this shaft.
today i put in a pst drive shaft that i just received from epp, and other than having to jack up the pumpkin to get the drive shaft to clear the loop while installing, everything went smooth.
when i finished i took the car for a quick ride around the block to make sure everything was ok..............and heard this noise...
its a squeal or squeak that happens when rolling forward or in reverse, stops when the car is stopped. it sounds like a belt squeal but it dosent occur while idling at a stop.
any ideas?

just checked the listing and here is what it says......
" 1350 Spicer Series: Manufactured with OEM tolerances and treated with our Cryogenic Process to yeild the strongest U-Joint available. For drag racing applications a solid non-lube design U-Joint is recommended (included) because of the tremendous initial shock load, or short duration of high torque the joint must be able to withstand. "
maybe it is them but its something im going to have to live with?

WELL not entirely...you could always take the DS out carefully remove the bearing caps, wad them up with grease and try that.
did you lube the seal before you put it in? sometimes if you don't lube it, the rubber will gab the shaft and can cause damage to it.

Try some white grease on the splines and on the slip yoke itself. Couldn't hurt.
thanks billy, ill try that......hopefully ill be able to take it to my dads shop tomorrow, because i pretty much reached the limit of laying on my back in its current state (probably shouldn't have even done it in the first place)

hahaha what happened here? well if you can get it on a hanging lift mike, would make things much easier on your back and much simpler to diagnose.
if you can't figure anything out that way, swap the drive shaft for someone's stocker to make sure the noise isn't elsewhere.
bubbas going after your title, thats what happened...........im gonna talk to my dad tonight about getting it on the lift.
its good, driveshaft must not have been fully seated.......moser needs a rebuild, but the driveshaft is good
