Any one recommend a good place to have installed or convince me to do it myself?

Agreed. I installed a Trans-Go kit in my old Iroc and it was one of the best things for the dollar I did to the car.

One thing I found after taking the pan off and getting into the valve body was that a few springs had already been snapped in half (accumulator pump spring I think was one of them). Cottman transmission hooked me up with new ones though so that was cool, but put a stop to my work, making it a 2 day job.

My :2cents: on setting the "firmness" of the shifts:

Stage 2 shifts hit decently hard for the street. If this is a street driven car, I'd say you'd be happy with that. I don't think I would have liked stage 3.

I'm not sure if you have a PCM tune or not but if you do I'd check to see how much he bumped up the line pressure. Trans-Go shift kit+higher line pressure can=BOOM

I'll say this much: If you are good at following directions and know how to turn a wrench, it's not a bad job. The kit comes with a video that outlines exactly what you need to do from start to finish, it's pretty thorough. I watched it twice before working on the trans, and then used the written directions when I was outside. It's a messy job but if you are willing to take a few hours out of your saturday to read the directions a few times and tear into it, it's worth it.

That said, $200 doesn't sound that bad for a shop to install it either. If you are like me now and don't have any spare time on your hands, that's the route I would go the second time around.

$200 sounds pretty good to me. its good to have expert eyes that might pick up on something a novice would not see.
