Depends on the wheel (if its aftermarket or OEM) but the majority use 2" spacers.

The adapters are fine as long as you torque the inner and outer lugs nuts every so many miles. The good quality ones come with instructions on the recommended miles to drive and retorque.

they may be ok for daily driving...but if you race, even once in a while, they could be hazardous.

If you are afraid to bolt on an adapter you should never touch you rims either because it is the exact same thing.

Can I use your adapters for racing or rock crawling?
We've been using the billet adapters on our twin turbo Camaro road race car. So far we've torn driveshafts, snapped axles, and broken torque arms, and the adapters have always been perfect. We are great at product testing (i.e. finding the limits of components when they break!). If we can't break it, it won't break.
Spacer is a thin circular disk that sits between the wheel and hub. It should be no more then 1/4 inch.
An adapter is larger, and is required to be bolted to the hub so to move wheel out further.
Adapters are VERY safe as long as you put them on correctly. Its not a place you want to cheap out.

thanks for the help al i appreciate it. they are not a place to cheap out at being put on and at buying the correct product right?

I lost a wheel WITH the adapter still on it(lost all the lugs holding the adapter to the hub) on the parkway because a year earlier when I put them on I used a lug wrench and I guess I never really tightened them down hard enough and they finally came loose.
Then again I lost a wheel on my beater because I didnt tighten the lugs down enough either, that didnt even have spacers/adapters on it...needless to say all wheels/adapters from now on are being double checked after I put them on by a shop with a air gun :)

Ted's been using Skulte adapters on his Iroc for years, and as far as I know he has never had an issue. I'll direct him to the thread so he can chime in himself.

I used Vette Brakes adaptors when I had SS/ZR1 wheels on my 91RS. Torqued properly and never had to worry about them. Street, autocross, and drag tires all went on and off the car weekly. I would check them occasionally and never noticed a problem.

Like ANY other wheel, always check the torque.
They give you directions on how to torque it properly. Hand tighten the lugs in a star pattern (dur), then first stage torque to 35ftlbs with a torque wrench, then again to 80ftlbs, all in a star pattern.
Check after a week of driving and retorque to 80ftlbs, as well as the wheels. Air gun or not, you need to make sure its torqued with a troque wrench.

Hey thanks for that great tidbit of info Al...ill be sure to do that next time so I can avoid any more complications.

80ftlbs? that it? i thought it was more like 100?
BigAls87Z28
03-29-2009, 08:21 PM
Says 80ftlbs on thier site.
Also dont forget to put a dab of anti-seize on the threads to give you a better and true reading, not to mention no galling between the iron rotor and aluminum adapters.

As Alex said I've been using the Skulte adapters for years on my car and I've never had any problems. I have 2" adapters for my Miglia wheels which Boon had on his 4th gen Z28. I have a 4th gen rear now so I only need them up front.
I also don't understand how people lose a wheel with the adapters because the lug nuts bolting them onto the hub stick out not too far from flush when they are fully torqued. It is impossible for the lug nuts to back off the threads enough to make problems when a wheel is bolted on. It would only fall off if all the studs break.

unfortunately no but keep checking ebay for skulte adapters. They had a good sale in an ebay auction (right from Skulte) so I was able to pick them up cheaper than off their website.
