The car appears to be in nice shape, but I have seen far too many of that era Grand Ams have a lot of trouble. In the shop more than out.

I'm not sure if I'm the only one who picks up on things like this, but I'm on craigslist every single day and the person who has that grand am posted posts many cars every single day. You can tell because the setup of the ads are all identical, same location described, and same phone number, but with many different cars. He puts them on there all the time with F body cars and I've talked to him over the phone about a z28 he had posted. Seems like he could be a scammer or possibly has crappy cars he doctors up to sell. My brother has also talked to the guy and once you talk to him over the phone you can tell something just doesnt seem right

look for an integra or civic with a 5 speed...tons of fun to drive, cheap to maintain, great MPG
unless youre one of those american only people

yeah the quad - four motors are piles of junk. you have to get one of those with the 3.1 v6 and it will run forever and get 27mpg highway. My grand am finally died....not the engine but the control arm and basically totaled it. :( :( still runs and drives somehow...

i'd recommend a Honda Accord, around the year 2000. right now, average one on CL is going for $4k-$5k, and has near 120k miles on them. my girlfriend has one, automatic, V6, with 160k miles on it--runs like it's brand new. REALLY reliable engines and transmissions, and she gets around 27mpg on the highway. that's my recommendation.

well all im sayin is, my integra has 215k on it and i only have to add like a 1/2 quart of oil between oil changes...runs like a top...doesnt smoke or knock. its a beautiful thing

actually, the automatic hondas are known for having their transmissions eat it after 100-125k. my brother's did and a honda tech was telling us all about it. they are good, reliable cars and get great gas mileage. cheap parts and if well maintained, should last a long time.

+1 on the hondas..my bros 91 accord has 290,000 miles on it, runs like a champ, doesnt burn oil.
my 96 civic on the other hand sort of takes a little beating from me every now and then, 118k and still runs great. i do have to add a little oil every now and then though

they are pretty notorious for the valve cover gasket leaking, especially into the spark plug tube. they have "o-ring" like gaskets that harden over time and let oil pass through. check there if you haven't already.

not bad i guess, i like it as a beater if it had a clutch...
i love when sellers darken the contrast on their sellings pictures to hide imperfections and what not. lololol

Yes i would avoid any GM FWD midsize cars like the black plauge.
For a girl, things like pride, brand, etc, dont matter, unless she cares. Put it all aside and get a toyota or honda product. Just if its a toyota, watch out for the 1zz-fe motor, came in the corolla and celica 98+, it burns up piston rings and starts to eat oil sometimes as soon as 60k miles

I was looking for a similar car myself, I was under the impression that the Grand Am GT's came with the 3.4 L V6, and I thought the 2.4 was the base engine for those cars. I'm just curious what's wrong with those cars? I was looking to get a 3.1 or 3.4 car myself since I know those engines are very reliable
