computer fans in car?

i am looking to hide my amp under my rear seat delete. maybe a couple other things too.

i want to hook up some computer fans to make sure it stays cool. i really don't know much about them though and am looking for some guidance. 90mm seems to be my max clearance so i am thinking 80mm for wiggle room. well i found a couple fans that seem to move a lot of air for their size.

as far as i can see with the vantec, there are 3 or possibly 4 wires. power, ground, and a signal wire to watch fan speed. possibly another for?

seems straight forward to wire up but since they are dc, will it be a direct hook up to a hot lead on the car? inverter necessary? can they handle 12-14 volts?

now the silverstone is a little fancier. i would love to have speed control, but i am uncertain how many fans i could hook into one controller? i would rather not have a separate controller for each fan.

also, it has 4 wires coming off of the fan, is that for rpm signal too?

is it better to push air over or pull air out? the setup isn't sealed, the front has a small gap as does the rear and the sides are open so i could cut holes in the sail panels and use that as the exhaust port. my overall setup would be two fans per delete box. ability to control all 4 fan speeds at the same time and to run at the same time when switched on. any and all insite is welcomed and appreciated! 8-)

i would thinkg you want to pull the hot air out......that will help the heat sinks on the amp dissipate their built up heat

edit: matt, the loudmouth should drain it out as will the music :wink: i would think enclosed in the delete box surrounded by fabric should drain most of the noise. also, variable fan speeds means i can drop the speed down and they should be relatively silent in the environment when necessary.

now can i buy some sort of cover to enclose this setup? i want to mount it in the center console and don't want things to slide around and slam into it :shock:

yeah if it gets too high i can crank the fan speed or maybe its automatic :shrug:

that is covered :) but i have no idea how a temp sensor could translate into a pressure sensor :-?


i am curious as to whether or not these fan controllers are simple two wire hook up or require more to make freakishly large calculations via teh CPU? i know the fans are 2-4 pin but am not sure if the controllers are self contained awesomeness

I would assume they are separate of the computer they were intended to cool. Most of that stuff is aftermarket and I doubt you are gonna have to be soldering into your comps mother board to run some fans.
