I have been thinking that at some point I need to get a beater that I am not tempted to mess with. Something with a warranty would be nice.
I got the Jeep and it is great. With my short commute to work, gas lasts weeks and it goes nice down the highway when I take trips. The problem is that I see all kinds of toys for it and I am tempted to mess with it more than just the little bit I originally planned.
I know I will never have a car that stays 100% stock and original, but I am pondering looking for something that I can rely on and somewhat fun/comfortable to drive, but not overly tempting to mob a lot

Crown Vic/Gr. Marquis. After your done laughing listen. Full frame, V-8, 6 Passenger, easy and cheap to maintain, and reliable. Not only that but we get a real 26+mpgs on the highway, and it is fun to drive. Yes I said a Grand Marquis is fun to drive. Other than a dual exhaust and mabye a CAI your done, besides it's a ford, they aren't fast no matter what.

My buddy has a maruader... I love it! Its got a SCT tune, cold air and 2 mangaflows in the stock catback... I put 160 miles on it in less then a day...

I was thinking about putting duals on it but it's so quiet I'd hate to ruin that part of the car.

Both sell over 100k units a year, more then I can say about a certain grouping of cars from GM over the last few years of thier existance....
Fusion or Malibu.
Closer to what you want to look to, family sedans or things that are more common place.

I was talking about the design of the cars...I mean c'mon. I'd like to know the number of them they sell just to the public(I'm assuming 100+K is including commercial use), because I don't see how any normal person would go out and throw down their hard earned money for a glorified station wagon.

that may be your opinion, but personally I LOVE my hhr. Absolutely can't beat it. I paid 11,900 for it with 12k miles on it, get 30 mpg regularly, 35 if I try, and get nothing but compliments from everyone on it. It's comfortable, reliable and convenient, I have transported a variety of things in it that you'd think you would need a truck for, but it worked great; a 12 bolt, 8 foot 2x4s, my daily work stuff that barely fit in my jeep.. It's def an awesome car, and also my vote for you tim. Not tempted to mod it at all other than maybe a tune for even better mileage.

I love the HHR. I wish it was out a year earlier, I would have leased that instead of the Maxx.

no good. ever heard of the mercury marauder? it's a grand marquis with 4.6-liter DOHC V8 with 302 horsepower and 318 pound-feet of torque . a supercharger and a bunch of parts are available aftermarket to turn your sheep into a wolf.

someone that followed my advice that actually has benefited by it... i was kidding about the 3 cylinders. the HHR is an awesome vehicle. i am currently trying to get the wife into one so we have room in the driveway (she still loves her Liberty).
and before you get interested in the Liberty (aside from your comment that they are all plastic inside), kenne bell has a supercharger kit for it. also, a lot of the other Jeep mods are almost plug'n'play with the Liberty.

i gotta agree with the frontier/xterra suggestion. I have a friend with a n/a frontier 4x2 desert runner, great little truck with great gas mileage. I have another friend with the sc xterra, much better on the road due to more power, but it runs on premium and is a gas hog. And when both of these kids wanted to mod them, there was nothing available outside of a cold air intake, exhaust system, or suspension lifts.
Also, I've driven a riviera, i love that car, and would suggest that as well.

Yeah, I'm assuming that the car is a total POS- but after seeing 454 beetles (originally rear engine, modified to front engine) and small block British crap (like Triumphs where the frame is just a crease in the floor pan) I'm positive somebody would hack one up.
what is that btw?
It's one of the old Soviet cars, sadly it was produced until 1994 in pretty much the appearance you see above. I have always been baffled by how ugly Russian cars were/are, it's like they were/are doing it on purpose..
Here's more about this one in particular if you are interested in strange Russian automotive engineering.

It's safe to assume that about any Russian car produced. A lot of people would prefer to buy 10 to 15 year old European car than drive a new Russian car.. sad really. I've never seen a government official in one either. Only cops on the outskirts of the city drive them, in the center it's all about BMW's and MB's.
