I was trying to help a kid on another site with his trans situation. He has a 2.8 V6 car and wants to swap in a 4.6. He wanted to use the same trans, I told him that a 60* V6 trans wouldn't bolt up to the 4.3 he wants to use since it's a 90* V6.

Some "old timer" decides to chime in and try to say that the degree of the V6 has nothing to do with it but couldn't go into any detail as to why the bolt patterns different. He then tries to use an example of a 60* V6 using a V8 bellhousing...this genius decides to use the old 3.3 motor...um...the 3.3 is a 90* V6

I try not to argue on the internet anymore, I'm far from an expert and there's always a chance of being wrong but :wtf::lol:

He keeps saying the degree of the V6 is irrelevant and that it's not the reason why the bolt patterns are different.

Am I wrong here?

LOL, yeah

I'm still waiting for him to come up with a 60* V6 that only takes a V8 bellhousing. After his 3.3L example the next one should be a zinger.

Your both wrong.

V8/T56 swap is the correct course of actions.

your wrong. the degree of the motor has no effect on the bellhousing of the trans. as per example.....the 4t65 bolts up to the 3800 and also to the 3400

We're talking Chevy motors, the 3.8 you're using as an example is a Buick motor ;)

ummm no the previous blocks all the way up to the late 80s ln3 were buick motors. the rest of them starting with the l27 was a ''worldwide'' powerplant used by GM.

you wont find a fwd 90 degree motor that isnt a direct descendant of the buick v6.

even then again it doesnt matter with the motor. the bellhousing pattern is the same for the 2.0/2.2/2.3 quad 4/2.4 twincam/2.8/3.1/3300/3400/3500/3800

Who is talking about FWD motors? I never mentioned FWD.

We're talking about 2.8 and 4.3 motors in either a Fbody or Blazer.

The 2.8 found in thirdgens and older Blazers isn't a Buick motor, nor is the 4.3...so I'm not sure where the 3.8 even comes into play.

EDIT: I think you're confusing the Buick 3.3 from the late 80's with the Chevy 3.3 from the late 70's...maybe that's where you got the FWD thing from?

I thought the Blazers had a 4.3...

They aren't interchangable. A 90 degree V6 is totally different from a 60 degree v6 except for the fact that they both have 6 cylinders.

yeah my bad. i got confuzzled when you smashed the 3.3 in there

I'd rock a Berretta as a DD...I like my Corsica, it's been the best $300 I've ever spent lol.

I'd love to have a Z26 to tool around in.

Ok, I'm a little confused about the engine since you referred to a 2.8 a 4.3 and a 4.6 so far. What is he actually looking to do, replace a 2.8 combo with a 4.3 combo?

Frosty
05-13-2009, 10:31 PM
Yeah, disregard the 4.6, I hit the 6 key by accident, I thought I edited them all.

Anyway, it's over...I told the guy he's right and I'm wrong and left it at that.

He still couldn't give a single example of a 60* V6 that accepted a V8 bell housing....then again I'm young compared to him so I know nothing.

It was futile so I gave up, lol.

QFT. i loved my corsica. the 4 doors was nice when i had to take the kids somewhere. it had plenty of balls for a little four cylinder, too. it would get out in traffic no problem.
