headliner

so the fabric on the roof of my car has been coming down onto my head lately and its about time i do something about it. i just have no idea how. any help is appreciated

usually a good upholster can make it look mint again. thats the route i would take. hard top or ttop? the ttop headliner backing might be too dried out to reuse. when i took mine off, it folded in half :lol:

i did my own headliner, i took the whole thing out of the car took the fabric off and bought some gray suade from the fabric store and then used some 3m adhesive to glue on the new fab. it turned out really good, but i have t tops not a hardtop but im guessing had top would be easier

Yes, the entire headliner has to come out of the car if you want any chance of it looking good when you are done :)

You should be able to get the 3M adhesive spray at many auto parts stores and most craft stores as well.

yeah just take the whole thing out thru the back and make sure your piece of new cloth is wide and long enough to cover cause most of the time they just sell 1 yrd wide you will have to look around, also make sure you get off most of the old adhesive which just brushed off on mine and dont be afraid to use alot cause you don't want it falling off again, but not overkill cause it will leak thru the fabric, i think auto zone carries 3M

just remember, 3m will heat back up and lose its stickyness in the summer. ive seen it happen. i use this.

If you use 3M make sure it's the Super77.....the other stuff will fall off. A hardtop headliner is cake compared to a t-top one so you should be fine. I'd suggest buying headliner material from Hawks or Year One that has the foam backing. Some fabric stores actually carry it as well. This will hold up better and less chances of the glue bleeding through if you put it on too wet.

should work fine if its not too stretched or ripped i know 3rd gen material is really fragile when its old but make sure most of the old glue isnt on there

the outer edges of the headliner that tucks around the backing pad will be screwed. if you dont want to get new material make two small holes in the side of the headliner and spray the glue through a small red wd40 style straw. use a credit card to flatten the glue out towards the little hole you made. that way you can clean up any excess
