hey guys, Im new here..switching over from Corvette Action Center..long story short, comming home from Atlantic City with my boy 2 weeks ago, i fell asleep behind the wheel of my beautiful 88 c4, we went off the road, hit a tree and flipped, I dont remember the actuall accident but I recived a helicopter ride to the Hospital (my friend wasnt as bad as i was).. Sadly my Vette didnt make it, she was DESTORYED beyond scrap metal status. So i just bought a 94 z28 in GORGEOUS condition, it does have 160k BUT was owned by an older woman, they said that they had the trans rebuilt, new timing chain and gears, new oil pump, and new water pump. the car looks pretty much spotless, if you looked at the car u would think it has 60k, anyway I noticed that at idle it only holds about 10-18 psi of oil pressure, than moving down the road it holds about 38-40..this seemed low to me considering my TPI in my vette was at 45-60 at ALL times, however the more i read online the more i realized thats normal for the lt1. Anyway I put 20w50 oil in the lt1 to help with oil pressure (and it has) b4 I realized it had normal psi with the 5w30 in it, my dad says not to worry but im just wondering, am I going to hurt anything or is the 20w50 ok?

ahhh yeah answered in your welcome thread. lt1's do idle with low oil pressure when hot. i would just make sure it has good oil pressure throughout the rpm range. i believe its around 40-50psi at 5k. thats with 5w30. 20w50 is ****in heavy

yes that low psi is fine my 97 lt1 ta does the same and if you want to use a lil more heavy oil i run mobile1 10w20 all the time without problems
and post some pics of the new car and your old vette if you wish

20-50 is a bit heavy, 10-30 should be fine.
I'd also suggest using GM oil filters, Using Fram and the like can also drop oil pressure a bit.

host it on photobucket.com then you can use either the http://www.njfboa.org/forums/images/editor/insertimage.gif shorcut or type the and code yourself
i would drain that stuff out and throw in 5w30

Thats a heavy oil....I would just simply do another change w/ the recoomend weight no biggie. Ac Delco are one of the best/cheapest filters. BTW how do you fall alseep behind the wheel I never got that. I made a str8 18 hr. drive to Sth. Florida w/ no other stops other then gas, started feeling it around Daytona but never came close to actually passing out.

i've also done the ride straight to Florida cus i used to live there for awhile, the more i think about it, the more I think i didnt fall asleep, i dont remember the accident but I do remember being tired so im thinking that I musta told myself i fell asleep, right befor I crashed there are 2 very sharp curves that I couldnt have made if i was asleep, we crashed about 100 feet after the last curve, so either i feel asleep within 100ft of making a sharp curve or something else happened, I drive past the accident scene almost everyday hoping to spark my memory....but I get nuttin...

I also lived in Deerfield Bch Florida for awhile. I do remember a few real sharp turns right before the bridge in AC on the White Horse Pike. I lived in Absecon right before the bridge a few years ago.
