I relocated my knock sensor on my turbo 3.4 camaro because it was too close to the exhaust manifold and the heat was burning the wire and sensor. I moved it to the drivers side of the block close to the oil filter. Does anyone know if the sensors location effects the performance?

I would assume so. If I remember correctly a knock sensor is a microphone, and its proximity to the sound of the knock will effect its performance.

Yea but the water jacket will be the same on both sides, no? Water/Antifreeze will transmit sound pretty well.

I read that in a couple forums about how the water jacket transmits sound better. The original location was not in a water jacket the new location is.

I thought they were always in water? The one on my LT1 was on the passenger side in the threaded water plug at the bottom of the block, near the oil pan and starter. I would think you could move it to the other side without a problem, there was always just a harness that ran to the starter and O2 sensor on that side so I would assume that is why GM put it on the passenger side.
How does it run now that it is moved? Any preignition?
