I had a lot to do today so I couldn't make it to the meet, but part of the work was doing a tuneup on the new beater(99 Tacoma 4x4 pickup standard cab 4cyl 5 speed) and it looked like nobody had ever touched the plug wires so I figured they might be the original spark plugs. I picked up some new NGK plugs and sprayed some PB Blaster in around the plugs hoping they wouldn't give me a fight. Sure enough, they are the original spark plugs with 126K miles on them! 2 of the plugs had the electrodes worn down to the insulator and the other 2 had the ground worn almost to a point! And somehow the guy was getting 22 mpg with the truck. This thing runs pretty good so it should make a good beater.

140k miles I changed the Motorcraft plugs in my 95 Taurus. It took me nearly a tank of gas to go to school in Springfield Mass.
After the tune up, it took 3/4 tank to get there.

toyota cars ill swear by, but im not to sure about the newer trucks. I know from experience i had a 95 4runner and it was a terd. The toyota "pickup"(anything before 92 i think) is not bad, my friend has one and has put tons of miles on it and i think the only issue he had was rusty rear brake lines. Its also super slow and gets crappy mileage, but it is reliable

Every vehicle has it's weak points or issues. These Tacomas have a known rust problem with the frame but you just need to check it. Toyota will buy back the truck at 1-1/2 times the KBB price if it's too dangerous to drive. These 2.7 motors also have an exhaust manifold cracking issue (which would be a good excuse to put on a header) and the head has been known to crack around 250K miles. So I'll just keep an eye out for these potential problems, but at only 126K miles I hope I don't have to do much any time soon. I found the parking brake lever on the driver's side was rusted stuck which is also a common problem. PB Blaster, utility knife, heat gun and a hammer and it was fixed in 4 hours!
