So it all started with a check engine light.......

The code read random misfire in cyl 5. Car always ran fine. Did a compression test, cyl 5 has 85%.

So...as of right now...the valve hit the piston....theres a weak spring and a bent valve.... :(

GOnna send them off to the machine shop on Monday for them to check them out. I def wasnt looking to do all this just yet. I guess 120k miles on her I should have been expecting something to happen eventually.

I was thinking the same thing. When it has to come apart for repair, that's usually when the upgrades go back in! It always sucks when there is unanticipated problems, but it just opened the door for the upgrades sooner.

Almost exactly 2 months to the day......Trans Am is finally back together!!!!! I got to turn the key last night....I am sure my neighbors loved me....well those who werent standing on my front lawn waiting for her start start.
Everything is fixed and seems to be functional. :0) Cant wait for the cool weather to get her back down to the track!! Of course it rains today so I couldnt cruise around with the t-tops off :(
Now I just need to save up for a clutch (still stock, with 119,700 miles on her) and new rear, I am on borrowed time with that thing!!

Well I am sure most of you guys figured that my "fixed" car wasnt going to last to long. Turns out a few days after driving it...SES light comes back on for the same code.

....So of course she went back into the garage..Issue #1 -when we were taking the head bolt out...it striped the block. Nice huh? Well thats fixed now. Issue#2- Took the #5 piston out, cracked! Well fixing that...and I guess we'll go from there. Hopefully thats the end of all that. All I want to do is drive her!!

I'll post pix later

Full rebuild or bust. I wouldnt have trusted putting that motor back together if a piston smacked a valve.
