View Full Version : Are you running a front plate?
Jersey Mike

I bought a front plate cover off a member of Tech & I should have it in the next few days.
I'm kind of worried about putting it on though... but I hate having that damn license plate mess up the front of the car.
How many of you guys are running no front plate?
I frequent Rt. 208, a number of towns in Bergen County, Rt. 23, Rt. 46, Rt. 287 & a few towns in Middlesex County... Do you guys think I'll get hassled for it?

Front plate here.

yes. I recently bought my front cover, and only ran it for a month before I pulled it off. It doesn't bother me to run the plate.

as ugly as the front plate makes the front of the car look. ask yourself if it's worth the ticket or not. no front plate is just a reason to get pulled over.
i know they alter the nice looks of alot of cars but imo it's not worth the hassle.

my dad didnt use a front plate when he had my car, i run one becuase if i dont it just gives a cop an excuse to pull me over.....then again i drove from roxbury to millville and back with the plate filler on and was never stopped
my buddy was pulled over twice within 2 weeks of not having a front plate on his new gti after he got a new nose...the plate is now ziptied to the grill lol, so is the one on the gto
i know their was a bill trying to be passed in nj to rid the front license plate law a year or 2 ago but i dont think it went anywhere unfortunately

I don't care about getting pulled over for something that stupid. I'm fortunate enough to be in the military and they just let stuff like that slide

they make nice retractable plate holders that mount to the underside of the bumper, so you can put it down for pics or shows, and be legal when driving.
i have one, its pretty nice

putting the plate in the dash board only reminds the cops its not on your front bumper. i refuse to run a front plate. its retarded.

front plate on the dash is obstruction of vision and no front plate  double own
i got a ticket though when i drove with no front plate so i am going to grab a retractable thing i think. that or zip ties.

nope, haven't for a couple of years, I will not drill into my grille. I keep the plate in the backseat so I have an excuse as to why it's not mounted in the front if I get pulled over.

no plate third third gen and seven years and counting mu excuse is i live on a block with old people and they cant park and i ordered a new one ill be sure to put it on asap lol!
no front plates here on my SKY or SS, just on the denali
Sky has tinted cover on the rear
Denali has tinted covers front and rear.
SS has no rear license plate light even.
Sky has NY plate
SS and denali are NJ
SS has the optional "support Law enforcement" plate
All 3 vehicles have noticeable US Army Decals on rear windows... lol
an example...in august, i got pulled over in the SKY for 88 in a 55 in ny, got ticket for no front plate and the rear tinted cover, since the cop wanted t give me a break(only 42 bucks each) well, on jan 5th i finally decided to call the court to try to pay, i explained i was deploying within 5 hours and just send the fine amount to my house in nj... 2 weeks later, my mom forwards me the letter from the court listing ticket numbers and all, at the bottom, the judge wrote "all charges dissmissed" lol...
moral of the story with how and what i drive, a front plate is the least of my concerns...

i got pulled over in the 96 yesterday (was driving it to show the g/fs dad who was up from Florida) for no inspection sticker and no front plate. the cop said he would normally give me a ticket but he has a lot of respect for the Military. i said thank you, he said "no thank you" and shook my hand before walking away.

No front plate on my vehicles. Hate the way they look. Haven't gotten hassled in a while but I'm sure I will now since I said it.
all three cars have it........
trailblazer has one because they mounted the plate holder on the bumper so it would look stupid without one.
civic has one because i just dont care how it looks.....
trans am has one because again, i just dont care, if i want to cover it ill put the plate cover on

Got tired of that being used as an excuse to get pulled over. So for the shows I put the cover on and take it off before I drive off now. I have to get it repainted now since I messed it up pretty good yesterday.

No plate here, have gotten two tickets for it but honestly I'm not drilling holes into my grill and it does help getting you out of other tickets if you get pulled over.....
^^^ wouldn't that give a cop an excuse to check your car out and give you other tickets??...why would not having a front license plate prevent cops from ticketing you for let's say a broken tail light or open headers or something?

its not automated/remote if ur thinking that...(just wanted to be clear). its manual. so the plate sits on bracket the hides under the ground effects..and if i want to show it, i can pull it out (it slides forward on a spring), then the plate pops up in front of the lower ground effect.
when you dont want it to show, just fold it down and push back under the car. like magic. lol
i dont have pics, i can take a few though if you'd like. i bought it for $45 from Altec. I think their website is altecproducts.com

the first 6 or 8 months i had my car i ran it without the front plate. i'm in bergen county too. always on 208/287 and 23. didn't get pulled over for it once.
for the winter i just put it back on because i knew my car would be filthy and look like crap anyway. still have it on just because i've been getting more and more dirty looks, probably just because my exhaust is kinda loud. when i put cats on, the plate will come off.

yup i have the same one as formulalt1...its a good unit and works very well.
FYI- they do sell automated ones...which i thought about getting it when i was looking for a hide-a-plate style bracket.. but they run between 150-200... and i just cant justify spending that type of money on a plate bracket when 200 can go to much more useful things i wanna do to the care ya know?

I did get the idea to use it from you and I am pretty happy with it. The function is awesome. The only complaint I do have isn't about the bracket but the way it has to be mounted when using a 93 - 97 Firebird bumper, because the bumper comes out from the mounting location you can see like 1 -2 inches of the piece it slides on if you are within a few feet of it but it doesn't bug me all that much and it suits what I wanted it for perfectly. Thanks again for the point in the right direction.
