So someone dropped this off at my job today. He picked it up for 500 bucks with a blown motor so basically he wants us to get a new one and install it. As well as go through the rest of it of course, brakes n stuff like that. Basically he wants to pick it up ready to go to the track. No prob. Except he doesn't know anything about the engine. Neither do we. We have NO info to work with at all. So I thought maybe someone here is into the karts or knows someone that's into it that could possibly be able to tell the manufacture of the engine. Anyone?

need better pics of the engine, i used to build shifter cart race engines for a friend of mine, and so far it looks like a cr 125 engine, but the pics really arent good enough to be sure. and by blown, do u mean locked up, it takes alot to ruin that type of engine. u may only need piston, rings, cylinder, etc. for a top end re-build. at the worst what could it need a top end re-build and crank, that is still cheaper than a new engine.

It looks like a honda CR 125. Are there any numbers on it so you can figure out what year it is? Parts are pretty common for those...you should be able to get them at a honda dealership. Is he serious about racing it? or just looking for fun. Where is he planning on racing?

After doing a quick search on ebay there quite a few of these engines on ebay. These things are kind of hard on cylinders and pistons in racing conditions...micro sprints will go about 4-5 races before needing a top end rebuild as preventative maintenance. Usually its just a piston.

Also check microracing.com the '125 class' uses a lot of CR 125s along with RS 125s. There is a difference, and his rules may not allow the rs 125.
