It was time to get the Firehawk inspected so I went to Wayne DMV. Gave paper work to guy, got paper work back and was told to go to the waiting area. No prob. I hear my car start...then hear the engine rev, and rev again, and again and again. I'm like WTF? The guy gets out gets the mirror to look under car and spends about 5 minutes looking under the car with another guy. I got my cats and a SLP Loudmouth 2 so it's got an exhaust and I figure I shouldn't worry. Then they decide to pop the hood.. Ok whatever I think. Then the F**ING DOUCHEBAG slams the hood, it doesn't shut so he SLAMS it harder.:evil:At this point the people in the waiting area look afraid cause I start cursing( I'm really good at it!) and I walk out of the waiting area and yell YO! WTF are you doing? DIPS**T guy turns around and says your hood won't shut. I yell don't f**ing slam it again I'll shut it when the inspection is done. Needless to say I failed for a hood that didn't shut (shut fine when I did it without the slamming) and no muffler. I say it it's got a mufller, it's the shiny stainless steel thing under the car. Dumba** guy say's he didn't see it. NEVER AGAIN will I subject my car to that. I'll just spend the 70 bucks and get it inspected at the garage I know. F**KINg IDIOTS!!! Sorry, that was abit of a rant..

Hey man sorry to hear, I have never had a good time at the dmv I will never forget once taking my 89 trans am when they used to have that dyno looking machine. The one guy there was ready to start the car in drive when he had only the front wheels on. His response " O this is not a FWD car sorry". Just find a good shop that will throw a sticker on.

ive stopped the inspection and had them call their supervisor over when the guy overheated my 86 on the dyno rollers. you can stop the inspection at anytime. i wouldve as soon as he slammed my hood.

I just wanted to beat the hell out of the guy slamming the hood. I just don't understand people sometimes, I treat other peoples stuff with respect and I would expect the same courtesy. God I freaking hate people sometimes.
Definately private shop FTW. I'll just take it to Greg and Sons over in Wayne. They got my old truck through inspection with no prob.

That's def some BS right there. I would have ripped him a new one and asked to speak to a supervisor right away. They have no right to treat personal property in that manner. I have to take the TA to inspection this month but luckily its going for collector car so I just have some paperwork checked along with the miles, good to go.
Last time around I asked if I could scrape off the sticker to get it all off but I was told no. The B&^^% barely scraped off the sticker and before I could clean the area, slaps on the collector sticker. Been like this for 2 years so this time it will be right.

I just wanted to get my Hawk outta there ASAP. If this happened like 5 years ago I woulda been in jail. Glad I have mellowed abit. When I swore at the idiot everyone just kinda stopped and there was nothing but silence.... It was F**king funny
Apparently the dregs of society have decided to get these wonderfull jobs. I feel bad for them with the unpaid furlough and stuff but don't take it out on my Hawk..

Those guys had no clue, what a Firehawk even is or for that matter what a Camaro or firebird is maybe they heard or them but that's about it. These idiots don't value these cars like we do. And for that matter they don't value anyone's car this is just a 9 to 5 job for them and that's it. They ran my Z/28 on that dyno thing looked under the car, and then used a hand held sound meter to check the sound level. I have the borla cat back, and at the time I had the 1 inch hole plate in so most of the exhaust went into the muffler, so I passed. They didn't look under my hood and if they did they would have no clue anyway LOL...

I totally get what your saying but ya know there should be some type of respect given to another persons vehicle. It shouldn't matter make or model. These cars are ours not theirs ! We pay car payments or repair and maintence. We take great pride in our cars and it should be respected. Some people just don't get it. I get the fact that their in a dead end job but that ain't my fault and its not my Hawks fault either.

Dude i couldnt agree more! I took my old cavalier through the place in randolph. some hot shot kid was doing it, ok fine.... it was the z24 so it was 5 speed and had a 6 cyl. the jerk gets in my car starts revving it then pops the clutch and did a mini burn out. I jumped out of the waiting area scream what the f are you doing with my car. Demanded him out, demanded his supervisor and sent a complaint to the state. I was pissed.
so private inspection all the way. f the state.

That sucks man, my brother took his TA to I think Paramus and they were revving the **** out of his car while moving it. I'm like Brian with the collector registration so luckily they just check out my paperwork and slap a new sticker on. I asked the guy last time if I could clean the area before he put the sticker on and he was nice about it. Even asked where I wanted the sticker. This was at Lodi.

When I put in a new transmission for my ranger, I also installed a new clutch set. About a month later I took it through inspection, and the guy there was ove 300lbs. ( the rocko's mondern life saying comes into mind, " That's not the fat guy....THATS the fat guy) and he sets my seat all the way back to accomidate him. He gets in my truck, adn gives it a **** load of gas to get it to move, and then stays on the clutch. I was so shocked I didnt think of saying something. So he drives it one more time, doing the SAME thing, and then I guess his supervisor told him to get out and he took over. when the guy got to the end, I asked him how can you let someone like that drive a manual.
The DMV is a joke, and I cant believe their disregard for someone else's property. I'm sure they wouldn't want someone to do that to their cars.

Well maybe it's time for us to post a thread on private inspection stations. Who go's where, how much they charge, list the good and bad. This way the club members who still use the dmv such as myself, can have the option to ditch those hell holes. And give the business to a private guy who will in most cases treat the car with a little more respect. I'd be interested in a good private station in my area.

I've never had a problem at the Baker's Basin dmv on Rt1. And that's 20+ years worth of taking all kinds of Camaros and trucks. They've failed me for stupid stuff like gas cap not holding pressure, wheels/tires stick out without flares. If you have a cool car, you just need to talk with them nicely before the inspection starts and act like a normal person. It also helps to get there early in the morning before they start having a bad day.

Those bastards in Paramus DMV failed me for a gas cap that leaked(WTF)? Then I get home and find out they stole all my change from the center console change holder. Do you need lunch money that bad? :-x

thats funny. last year i took my camaro through bakers basin and the kid popped the hood, nosed around and then revved the piss out of it before putting it into gear to get to the next station, chirping my tires slightly. i yelled at him for it....i failed for a blinker and bald tires in the back

I hear ya on that... Brought mine to the inspection over in Edison a couple back once they brought it in they revved it right up to the limiter.. Than proceeded to fail me for excessive exhaust. I call for a DMV strike, too many people go through this, i'm up for inspection in a few days i plan to bring my video camera just in case... but considering im closer to a normal crowd of people further south I doubt i'll have to deal with the northern folk.

Well, you had bald tires which is a bad start, they probably chirped because they were bald and they need to rev the exhaust to check for leaks. And you should know to check your blinker fluid! I had my old supercharged 93 Z28 run on the rollers several times and passed emission's with no problems.

Had a judge tell me I was too pretty to go to jail once so I kinda use that as a type of mantra. He mentioned racks and some other stuff and I said to myself, Self not going to jail! Worked out good so far.

i would of killed the guy if he did that to mine haha they are idiots, my dad has a bunch of stories about the t/a going through over the years, like passing inspection with no cat twice, but failing for having velcro by the lights....they even flipped out once when my mom took it one day when she had the windows down on a 95 degree day when the ac went out because they thought we were hiding tinted windows, they take it wayyyy to seriously
i just cant wait to take mine in november for the first time being modded..

the LAST time I went to the dmv or MVC as they are called now, dude snapped my locking gas cap trying to get it off the car, didn't realize you had to use a key, then proceeded to fail me for having A BROKEN GAS CAP.
I flipped the eff out then I was approached by a large black man who claimed to be a supervisor who suggested I leave immediately before I have to be taken out of there in a way I may not like. Will never go there again.
One time I saw a dude come in with a C5 vette, dude inspecting it dropped the clutch and spun tires from the initial pull in area to the suspension test area.

If you go early in the morning, you usually don't have these issues. If you go at like, 7am, you get the retired folks who are respectful.

not at all. just bring your failure papers when you go for reinspection. the state sets reinspection prices based on the shop's labor rate.
Sorry but NJ sucks. If it wasn't for the few good people, the pizza and Atco New Jersey could fall into the Atlantic and hopefully take NYC with it.

forget it if you have a lifted truck, I had a 3" body lift in my Ranger.....man I never saw the inspection staff run..... towards me with yard sticks in hand. they were in their glory telling me my truck was too tall.....at the time I only had 31" tires on it.
many years ago the wayne staff was going to fail me for the front parking lights going out when turning on the head lights in my '69 Mach 1.......that's the way it was built....finally the supervisor agreed!

If the truck came from the factory with tires that measured out to 29" or less, then they were right. 4" is the max you can be lifted to go through regular inspection. Anything over and you have to get it tilt tested at one of 3 specialty stations.

They failed my firebird because the horn was too hard to push and the steering column was "loose". It had like 1mm of play like EVERY tilt column does. There all just mad at the world and they dont like older cars one bit. I actually passed emissions which was surprising. Im sure they would have found a way to fail me for that

they make commission on failures iirc. that or overtime not sure. overtime makes sense
