one of the top 5 wins in u.s. history, we rocked the world, spain hasnt lost in 35 games, including i think 22 shut outs. the u.s. has finally stepped up their play the past 2 games and are living up to their potential. whether your a soccer fan or not, you should be proud of this team.

I could think of a few...
Football
Basketball
LaCrosse
Hockey, even if its a bunch of pissed off figure skaters, there is still a hell of a lot harder to move on ice, keep your balance, hit a 3 inch wide by 1 inch tall cylinder of rubber with a stick with a bunch of bulky equipment.

football you get breaks all the time
basketball is no where near a tough sport
lacrosse is the only thing that comes close to soccer considering its hockey on a soccer field lol
its a lot harder to stop a soccer ball then it is a hockey puck

id like to see people that talk crap about soccer actually try and play a 90 minute game...thats 45 minutes of playing a 10 minute break, then another straight 45, then possible overtime....no breaks, only real men can play soccer

First off, no.
MOST High School football in non stop. There is no breaks for commercials, and most people play both sides of the ball, I know I did.
I never got a "break". I had to push 230-300lb people out of my way, or tackle 180-200lb fast moving targets, not to mention trying to do both with 21 other people around me. And we do that for 3 hrs straight, with a 20 min break in between.
As for professional football, its 100x more taxing Im sure. People are faster, stronger, and its much more complicated.
Im not going to downplay soccer, but dont downplay football.

Basketball is not a tough sport? Its the most injury filled sport out there. Its sprinting up and down the court, 5 guys chasing 5 guys. No goalie, no defensivemen that can sit back and watch...its sprinting up and down the court over and over and over again.
Soccer is not all that bad. I could run for 90 mins staright no problem in hs, my problem would be the tallent aspect. Local "Shore Conference" football is not filled with big D1 type people, not a lot of massive dudes with tons of strength. All the guys I played along side ran on both sides of the ball, non stop for 3 hours, or more.

Hey Al.
I played both Soccer & Basketball all throughout my life, and did a couple years of varsity Swimming.
Football, Hockey & Basketball are all tough, don't get me wrong, but there are just some things about them that keep them from claiming the "most grueling" title.
-Basketball: Man, I loved the fact that the court was so tiny; meant *a lot* less running. Fouls were awesome, we'd get to hang out around the Key for a good minute and catch our breathes. Switching from Man-to-Man to Zone defense made life much easier too. Good times!
-Football: Stopping after each down sounds awesome. Just the idea of not having to run full out at any given moment eases my heart. Lining up at the line, catching that breath as the play clock ticks away, then getting to do it all over 22 seconds later when the play ends.
-Hockey: I have the most respect for hockey because it's hard as ****. You just never know when or where that hit is coming from. The long ass stick & blade make stopping the puck a lot easier, and you gotta love being able to glide rather than actually having to move your feet as you would in other sports (jog) when play slows down. I love Hockey, too bad the devils couldn't clear the puck during game 7 against the 'Canes this year; I was there, that hurt to watch. Hockey's no joke.

As a soccer player, you're running... all the time. There is no zone defense, you dont' get to stop and catch your breath at the line of scrimmage or at the foul line. You run every second of every minute, and you sprint balls out when you sense your man may have a chance to make a move.
Anyone can run for 90 minutes, but not everyone can run at the same pace as the game, then sprint at someone else's demand, then repeat, for 90 minutes. There's a big size difference between a soccer field & basketball court.

I totally forgot about Lacrosse & Rugby; they definitely don't get the appreciation they deserve.

Being hit in high school football is like falling out of a one story building. Being hit in college is like getting hit with sludgehammer. Being hit in professional football is like being in a car crash. Soccer is hard for what it is. But dont take anything away from football. i dont see any 350lb soccer players. You need a combo of speed and strength for football. Football is just different from soccer. Yes you get a break in football, but while your playing its full force. Being a lineman is pretty much being a sumo wrestler for 4 periods. Qbs have the entire defense wanting to send him to the hospital. RBs same thing

if you put brian urlacher on the field, he probably wouldn't be able to catch any of them. likewise, if you put a soccer player in an NFL game in any position other than kicker/punter, he would get tossed around like a rag doll. both situations would be equally laughable.

I never said anything about rugby....and being a QB isn't athletic? putting a ball in a receivers hands 40 yards away, or shooting it in between 3 defenders? what about when a LB reads the flow of the play and the RB and the QB then has to make the tackle? That's not athletic? I've prob said this 3 times but I'm not taking anything away from any sport im just saying don't take anything away from football

Football defiently requires a lot of skill and athleticism. But you brought in bench pressing and squatting. Just because somebody has power does not make them athletic. Truth be told there are some very athletic football players. Linebackers and Running Backs come to mine. However there are also fat slobs with a lot of strength and little else. Strength, speed, muscle stamina, cardio endurance- all those things add up to a good athlete.

The Rugby thing was a knee-jerk response to the fact that many football players consider their sport to be the pinnacle of physical demand. Not meant to be a shot at football, really.

You would be surprised how fast these fat slobs are. Linemen are very very fast, and its amazing how quick they can be when you are 280-320lbs.
Worse is how fast the defensive ends are. And they can also bench a VW Bug. And they get paid on sacks. And you are in thier way.

A lineman may seem very very fast if you, yourself, are tipping the scale at 300llbs, and have to compete against him.
Ie: It's all about perspective. From the perspective of a 300llber, the train rushing forward at him may be approaching "Fast," but there's a difference between Fast & "Quick."

Not trying to take anything away from Football--(Hell, I watch more football than I do basketball & hockey combined)--Just pointing out the little things here and there that tip the "Grueling Scale" slightly in favor of "Futbol" rather than Football

Its all in good faith. Ya thats why i didnt mention the linemen lol if your born big you can just be a linemen. But you can't just run a 4.3 40 out of the womb, have amazing vision, and good hands. Its gotta be worked on and perfected. Much like drills with soccer. Im sure kids dont come out doing over head kicks, and jumping 3 feet in the air to do headers. rugby, soccer and hockey...... in that order are the most grueling sports...

rugby...everything soccer has to offer....tossed in with no pads brutal football

soccer...crazy running, never stopping, heart pumping makes me wanna die thinking about it

hockey...skating in multiple directions, handling pucks while dodging large speeding people trying to knock you down and still shoot the puck is pretty taxing

football is a rough sport...takes extreme athleticism...very few people can play football at a professional level but there are many breaks. even in high school football you still get a little bit to sit in a huddle and catch your breathe.

edit::: for what its worth....Justin Tuck is faster than strahan. i watched him run down tomlinson to save a touchdown when tomlinson was already 20 yards ahead....crazy

Fixed.

when you know the other teams defense its not hard to drive down the field and win a game in the last seconds with a field goal.

which is exactly what the pats did. keep it close and cheat to nail down the coffin lid. 3 superbowls. all won by 3 points.

even funnier! cheats for years..wins 3 superbowls. get caught cheating, go undefeated and lose the superbowl.

Whens the last time the eagles won a superbowl? The last time they were in a superbowl was in 04. The last time they were in the playoffs was 06

lol we knocked out the giants in the playoffs last year and came within a 2 minute drive from the superbowl in the NFC championship....shows how much you know.

my point is that the eagles, panthers and rams were all cheated out of superbowls by slick willy

Just shows how little i care about the eagles. If they were cheated why do they all suck now except the panthers?

Is McNabb dead yet. No?

Okay, back to disliking the eagles I go.
