quick question for people who tune cars...

hey i started to tear my car down yesturday to build my motor.... but i forgot to clear my computer of the crappy hypertech tune that i had in there... i meant to clear it but forgot... i mainly got the hypertech for my gear change a while back... i wanted to bring it back to stock... if needed i can hook the batter back up and just run the tuner on there but if it doesnt matter to who ever tunes the car after the build weather the hypertech tune is in there or not then ill just leave it.... any help appreciated... thanks

Any new tune will erase whatever is on there.

Don't you have to return your car back to stock with the Hypertech before you can use it on another car? If that's the case I would return your tune to stock so you can re-sell the Hypertech now that you won't be using it anymore.

That tune will stay in the PCM's memory til a new tune is uploaded though and even so. Most tuning uploading software requests you to save the prior tune to a file before it erases it and then uploads a new tune. You can also just supply power to the PCM without the engine hooked up though and change the settings.

Edit- Also, just a suggestion and others sometimes disagree but I would find a 94 - 95 PCM and use that for tuning. With a 94 -95 OBD 1 hybrid you can upload tunes and change settings yourself with software (some of which is free). That way if you make a change as some point you don't have to bring the car somewhere. I change minor stuff in my car but when I change stuff that will need to have things remapped I just email or call Bryan and he emails me a new tune within a day and 2 pins/15 minutes later I am good to go.

When and if you decide to switch to a OBD1 hybrid let me know and I can get you a PCM for 50 or under and the tuning guys usually ask 175 for there used one's. The only thing you need to change is either the knock sensor to a earlier design or the tuners can make a change to the settings to read the newwer style obd2 knock sensors.

I don't get the point, are you saying he should use a 93 PCM if he wanted to switch to speed density?, cause tuners tune out the MAF on 94 - 95 PCM's all the time and if so, why would he want speed density on a modified N/A car?

Why cause of that LS1 coil thing?. Not a fan of that system all that much but I see how it has some basic ignition advantages but tuning wise, I am not sure how that would go but if you are looking to scrap the optical sensor all together I guess you don't have all that many choices, I would personally just use the optical sensor as the trigger and then add the coils if I was looking to go that route, so I could keep the tuning features of the OBD1 but its his project.

With your car the tuning process would be alot easier with a hybrid and like I said uploading the tunes wouldn't require visiting anyone. Also dyno's have shown roughly 10 horse at the flywheel and 7 at the wheels from the swap.
