So what is the fastest car you would drive as a DD?

None of the BS street car vs. race car nonsense, just asking if an 11 sec car would be a DD for you or maybe a 10 sec car?

fast and streetable are 2 different things...

Ill drive a less than 11 car, but i would be very cautious on how I drive it, if that makes any sense

In my opinion, anything faster than mid or low 12s is the limit for a DD. Anything faster than that, youre just asking for trouble

Daily = rain, snow. So I said 11-12

These cars suck for daily drivers...I did it w/ my modded 97 LT1, never again.

If we had better roads around here, I wouldn't have too hard of a time DD the bird but with how low it is with long tubes, subframes and the stiffer suspension, it kinda makes it a little uncomfortable but I am sure there are streetable 10 - 11 second cars that are better suited for daily driving, I just wouldn't trust myself to drive a car like that every day.

ill daily drive an open wheeled dragster if i was allowed

I've DD 2 C4 vettes with a Z51 suspension. If I could manage that a stock F-body would feel like riding in a cadillac .

Maybe 13 second car at the fastest...any more I think its too easy to get in trouble. It becomes really easy to speed, and difficult to drive in hazardous conditions. It really depends on the car too. Are we talking about something bought stock, or something that would be modified?

I dd my vert for a while... That was running 12.4's at 110.8.. Dont think that I'd take it on a really long trip tho

its annoying and it takes the fun out of a fast car if u drive it everyday, if i had money prob the fastest dd id own would be a g8

Id say anywhere in the 12 sec 1/4 area in my camaro would be fine for me to daily drive. Any faster and i know i would speed.

I love DD my car. But I would DD a 10 sec car. I would just make it set up for the street. With turbo cars you can easily get a decent cruiser/10 sec track car.

I went between 11 and 12, but there is lots of gray area in there. My Firechicken goes solid 11.7's -11.8' and is an easy daily driver all motor, nothing crazy. But take an old school muscle car that goes 11's on the motor and I bet its a completely different animal that might not really be all that much fun to DD (think cam, carb, compression and no creature comforts etc). Nitrous skews the curve wildy and turbos and other forms of assisted breathing do the same. So it depends more on the combo than on the pure number IMO.

It really really depends on the car.
Take an 10 sec car. How many people here have 10 sec cars here or driven one? Probably race suspension, loud, horrible gas milage, and probably missing some interior parts.
But look at a car like the ZR1. A flick of a switch, you go from local cruser car, to a full on sports car. Its engine is civil around town, but can turn into a monster.
It comes down 100% to the car itself.
You could daily drive a ZR1, if you had the funds, but I would be hard pressed to daily drive a 1-4th gen Fbody running 10's.

I can spray mine to 10 sec glory.

ehh i wouldnt dd a zr1 either....

twin turbo porche...one of the bigger amg benz's, one of the caddy v cars. etc.

all capable of mid 11s to mid 12s, with all the creature comforts you want

Why wouldnt you DD a ZR1? The cars you listed are priced more, so its not a price issue.
A S65 sure would be a nice ride, and Im sure could pull off a solid 11 sec run.
There was a guy with a new CTS-V, running 11.06 on DR's, stock.

Mike
07-01-2009, 06:32 PM
not a price issue at all. i personally want a little more comfort in a dd, a little higher off the ground, a little more room, and enough space to hold my **** for work.....plus if i had a zr1 i wouldnt want it getting wet or snowed on....

You can spray to tens but if you make it one run in the tens on the spray before it blows up, I would be shocked.

Personally, no faster than mid 11s.
It's good to have the power on tap for when you need it, and not too much power that I'd lose the car when or have ridiculous MPG.

I'm loving my LS1. 13 second car and I'm getting 23 per gallon through an A4. Not too shabby, right?

My plans for the car include 11.75 passes, hefty brake & suspension upgrades.

I'd daily drive John Force's funny car if I could...just cause it can go stupid fast doesn't mean it has to. rain, snow, ice. F-bodies are a bastard to drive in that weather but as long as your not going up hill or down hill with curves your good

You should change the poll to show 11-13 or 11-12.5 and 1.5 or slower. A 10 second car on NOS is not a 10 second daily driver because you don't use NOS while driving to work so it's not a really good question. A 10 second cam/head etc car would be tough to daily drive, a forced induction 10 second car probably wouldn't be too bad. 11-12.5 second car can be a dd easily though. I ran a supercharger on my 93 Z28 as a dd for almost 5 years and never had problems. It wasn't a 10 or 11 second car but it shows you can dd a forced induction car. Towing was much easier with the extra power as well.

what color is the GTO?

Silver... and I'm pretty sure it had a Magnacharged LS3.

And I would say it really depends on teh setup, but an 11 second car is definitely streetable in a newer car.

airbag it. then you select the ride height, and can lower it when you want to. Air Ride has already proved many times over how airbag equipped cars can handle anything you throw at them. even tight corner auto-crossing...
