removing self-adhesive Velcro strips

picked up a new beater, the previous owner put a carpet dash cover over a perfect dashpad and held it on with a ****load of little strips of stick on Velcro. What a good way to go about getting the velcro and the glue residue off? I dont want to hurt the dashpad because its really nice.

if you can pull the velcro up without hurting the dash just use some 3m adhesive remover to get residue off. It smells a little funy but isnt too harsh. Just test in an inconspicuous area first.

2nd the 3m adhesive remover. its the best stuff i have ever used for removing glue residue.

You might try letting it sit in the sun a bit and then using wet naps.

and if you want to go cheap... just spray WD-40... works just as well as any other adhesive remover.
1. Spray WD-40 directly on the residue if possible
2. Let sit for about 5 to 10 minutes
3. Yank the velcro / wipe off with a cloth.
4. If some residue remains, repeat.
5. Clean with a damp cloth; buff dry

well, i pulled of the carpet cover thing and the velcro this morning. The velcro came off really easily, i was surprised, and they left very little residue. I was able to just wipe it off with some simple green cleaner and all is well.... except for the small crack i found from the defrost vent to the speaker grill:-x, oh well, its not too bad, and its the beater so who cares. Besides, it looks a hundred times better already without the carpet on it.

like i said, its just a small crack from the defrost to the speaker, maybe an inch and a half. It cant spread anymore. I can pickup a good pad off ebay or TGO, but it doesnt bother me too much right now.

I did get a chance to look over the entire car today, fix a couple small issues, and i have to say, its a really clean car and it runs and drives like a new car.
the little 3.1 purrs along effortlessly, and so far i've put almost 150 miles on it and the fuel needle has just started to move, not like the 86 where i can actively watch it move while i drive.
