View Full Version : To trade or not to trade??
So some one wants to trade me a 72 camaro for my 74. I like the look of the 72 better, and it has a rebuilt 350 4-bolt main, he said it puts out about 350 hp. and a rebuilt th400 with shhift kit stall and b&m shifter. The interior isnt as nice as mine. But he wants to do a straight up trade. Hes from ohio and the only way I would trade is if he brings the car here Im not driving anywhere. Shoud I go for it? First things to go would be the motor/trans, so I could build my big block and buy a four speed.

Get pics of the floor and rear frame rails immediatly.
I got trunk pics and it dosent look too bad just some surface and pin holes he said that there are patches on the frame rails for no apparent reason (said it was drageraced at somepoint), and the drivers front floor would need to be replaced.

I would press for the rear frame rail pics. I had a car with a great trunk pain but FR's that were rusted out.

I asked him just waiting for a response.

That year can fetch more money than yours and it looks pretty good but pics lie. If he is coming to you at least you can turn him away if it is a pos. I wouldnt promise anything until I saw it in person. Good luck.
Got some more pics the first one is the only one that concerns me.

Is that your 74 with no trunk pan?
Nope the nova the trunk in the 74 is clean enough to eat off of

I think you should stick with the 74. I would rather have a yours than that 72...they are only original once. The 72 is in OK shape...but IMO its better to have a totally original car that needs a little bit of help than a half-assed restoration. I'm sure that 72 seems great now, but i'll bet there is a lot wrong with it. Looks like a money pit.

looks like he's skirting around showing you the good shots of the frame rails....from the looks of that one with the muffler its pretty shot and eaten through....i cant imagine what the rest behind the muffler looks like

Yea he doesn't have a picture of the part of the frame rail that rusts out. All he gave you was the top piece...which rarely rusts out. Its the bottom part where it looks like that patch is welded in. I'll bet that patch is there because of rust...not for any other reason than that. Definitly "skirting around" as stated. Seems like a money pit. Again, my vote is to stay away. I don't think you could find a better example of an unmolested 2nd gen (for the money) than what you've got now. I wish I saw your car 3 years ago before I bought mine...

I would keep your car if it's cleaner and more solid. If you were to do a trade, I would try to keep it to dealing with someone closer so you can check the car out a couple of times. Each time you look at a car, you find more stuff that needs to be done or replaced. I'd be really surprised if he would be willing to drive this far without some kind of deposit or gaurantee from you, I know I wouldn't.

The 1st pics and last pic show likely need for frame rail repair and quarter repair, and trunk floor.
But hell, it's all just time and money. But weren't you looking to sell to get a newer one?
