I put in silicone DOT IV fluid when I converted my drums to disc thinking that would be better. The manufacturer says I should have used DOT III. What can happen? Do I need to gravity bleed in dot III?

The manufacturer says that it silicone is hard on the seals, but I need to keep using the DOT IV otherwise I need to replace the master and calipers. Does that sound correct? Anyone have any experience with this happening to them?

If you used DOT IV with DOT III you should be fine, they are commonly interchangable. They are both Glycol based. DOT V is the silicone based fluid. If you used DOT V I am pretty sure that is not interchangable.
The only difference between DOT III and IV is temperature rating, with IV being able to withstand greater temperatures.
DOT III and DOT IV are interchangable, DOT V and higher does not interchange.

i always thought as long as the rating was higher it was ok, ie IV works with III but you cant use III in something rated for IV
^^^^nope heres why.
