I was in my friends 95 z28 and when he went to stop the car and put the e-brake on, the handle just snapped back and didn't work. Now the handle doesn't work at all and the brakes are not dragging there just doesn't seem to be tension on the cable attached to the handle. Could anyone give advice on what this could be.

Cable broken or mechanism under the console done broke. Pull 2 7mm screws out on center console and lift up you can see the rachet mechanism

You should get under the car and see what the cables are doing when you pull the lever. Maybe the end of the cable broke off in the drums, or the cable broke somewhere along the way

yeah went under the car and found out one of the cables came off the bracket where all three e-brake cables come together
