nah...there's none on the springs I sprayed it with the spark plugs in so just the taper is painted. the exhaust ports and the water pump jackets did get over spray but that ain't gonna hurt anything. the mounting surfaces will all be cleaned up with a cookie before anything else is bolted on. its just a cell pic, I'll put up a better one sometime when I have time

You missed the whole center part though? Is that going to be red? For like a two tone job?
bubba428

WHAT!!!!!!! you mean the machined surface where the intake manifold mounts? that going to be natural aluminum finish....the timing cover is going to be chrome as well as the valve covers.

Bad!
Gonna make a wavy ass surface... but hell the rest of the engine is coated in overspray.
bubba428
08-15-2009, 06:43 PM
no...that doesn't remove metal, just paint and whatever else is on there. i've always used a cookie wheel and never had issues

You can use roloc discs on cast iron. And they make them in different grits. So for once I'm gonna agree with him.

Really?
I thought any circular cleaning would create un even surfaces... idk, its not recommended in anything I have read.

I've never had any issues. You have to be careful, of course. I would not use it on aluminum.

yea, its really hard to not eat up metal on aluminum surfaces. i usually just try to keep it moving fast and use almost zero pressure

Actually you can paint the head surface and lifter valley for better oil drainback (supposedly).

Yes. Do a search for "Glyptal". http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=glyptal&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wi&biw=1170
Keep in mind that it's not regular paint.

But remember the block must be properly preped, and the Glyptal baked on or you'll end up with an oil system full of paint flakes!
And that's old school, no one really does it any more, either polish the lifter valley or just leave the material "as is" and rework the drain holes.

I did not mean to imply that he should do it on that engine. Just that you can paint the inside of one in certain situations. And yes, it's old school

there is definitely paint in that head and you really want to use the plastic green discs for prepping gasket surfaces. i agree with polishing the lifter valley too.

that tiny bit won't hurt nothin. I used the tan disc on the machined surfaces. look at the exhaust ports

yup, I'll take some tonight. I'm going with the 15in camaro wheel until I can get a set of decent wheels on it. and yes its the same body as a GN only with the ugly steel bumpers. I'm gonna get a GN front and rear clip

Yeah I was gonna just blast my steel bumpers black. I have a 86. Where you sourcing the GN front and rear bumpers from?
Heres some reference on them still looking badass with steel bumpers.
