My brother has one of the sit on top style of kayaks and we use it on the river and he'll take it to some smaller local lakes. It's not the style that you run the rapids with if that's what you're referring to. There's a spot on the Delaware River just north of I95 where there are some nice standing waves due to the speed of the water going through a narrow area that a lot of kayakers play around.

I got one, I use it more for our rivers down here as well. Every now and then I go down to Cape May, and set off by the sunken concrete ship and chill out there.
Yea I am looking at more sit on top style like you guys are referring to.
I also would like to do some back bay fishing with it.

My brother usually paddles up the Delaware River and then floats back down and fishes. You just need to stay more along the shoreline to stay out of the stronger current in the middle when going upstream.

Yeah, that's a whitewater kayak. The type you sit on is an ocean kayak. The long ones that you sit in that have a spray skirt and are longer with cargo holes are sea kayaks.
I used to sea kayak years ago. It was a blast.

Done both, I enjoy the open type better though, they are a lot of fun in the surf.

Merrill Creek blows them both out of the water! No pun intended. :) No motors, and you can even see the bald eagle :)
