We're looking for a pet for the apartment.
Need something quiet that won't tip off the neighbors that there's an animal here, since, technically, we're not supposed to have any pets in these apartments.
Suggestions welcome.

I'd say a cat but if he's anything like mine he's not quiet. Orange Tabby's are known for being loud...he never shuts up and when he jumps down onto the floor he's about as graceful as an ox drunk off a 5th of vodka
He's an awesome little guy though...look into rescuing a cat or something.

Can't be a dog since they need to be walked & we can't have the neighbors seeing that.
One of our roommates doesn't like cats; so no cats either.
Something playful & not dull

i'd say rabbit or ferret orrr some other small mammal, you can actually play with one of them
Jersey Mike

I'm pushing for a ferret but am afraid of them stinking up the place. Anyone have one?
We all have fish at home. I've had Salt Water tanks & fresh water, one of the guy shas a shark at home too. Looking for something that'll run around and you can play with. They get boring after a while.
S.S.P.- I told my roommates that you're really pushing for a hooker & they like the idea. We'll keep it as a fall-back option

Chinchilla (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinchilla)? I always wanted one. I think they are pretty easy to keep and dont smell too much as they are desert animals and nocturnal.

A lot of people have said Chinchilla--I'm under the impression they're expensive.
Are they cool, or just a tiny fat rat with dumbo ears? Playful like dogs & ferrets?

09-09-2009, 09:50 AM
I have a small place and have parakeets there pretty cool sometimes a little noisy but you can just cover them up and they will be quiet. If you play with them enough they will sit on your shoulder and walk around the outside of their cage.

too true.

again, if he's afraid of waking the neighbors, this is not the way to go. he'll always be outside cursing his car/bike/other worldly possessions.
I'm pushing for a ferret but am afraid of them stinking up the place. Anyone have one?
ferrets/weasels are cute. they eat cat food and use the litter box. can't beat them if you like to watch cats do silly things - ferrets beat them out in the cuteness department.
to recap: two hookers and 8 ball - too much noise. WF=DF too much noise. ferret FTW.

ferrets are smelly and can be nasty. they smell worse than a cat litter box. why doesnt your roommate like cats? IMO anyone who doesn't like cats (but likes dogs, etc) for reasons other than allergies just hasnt had the right cat.

ferrets are smelly only if you don't clean and handle them, if you toss them in a cage and don't do any thing with it they tend to **** and piss all over themselves.
Otherwise they make great pets for small places.

Because there are no goats in the USA? and even if there were goats in the US, they would be easier to get from another country, with the waiting through (I think it is the) CDC through customs or what ever

I vote Chinchilla. They are pretty expensive, and I think you have to go through some crap to get them, but for your situation thats what I would say. They don't smell, ferrets stink like any other rat. Either that or some type of fish/water critter. Just about anything else will smell or make noise. Or adopt a kid?
