Major Problem

yesterday we finaly got the gaskets in for my 58mm TB so we were able to put my car together and start it. we had it idling for a few minutes(like 5) and then i began to drive to my friends house about a mile away. im goin down the little portion of highway and i see smoke coming from my hood. i get off the highway and coast to my friends house. we pop the hood and smoke pours out. we spilt a little bit of coolant when we were filling and i thought maybe that was just it burning off. deffinatly not. we walk across the street and notice 2 big oil spots under my car. after the smoke is gone we see that there was oil coming out of the cap. but the cap is still on. The car wouldnt start at first so of corse i think i smoked the motor. then we disconect the CCV hose(hose from TB to valve cover) and just have the hose off the valve cover kinda as a breather. and then the car starts right up and runs fine. but i still dont know were the oil on both sides under the car came from. i cant really tell if it dripped of the headers of the pan. could i have had to much oil pressure and blown the pan gasket? and also i drove the car for a little bit more that night and it ran fine. but there was still oil spots on the ground in the same spots. not big ones though. so what do you guys think is wrong? and how may i go about fixing it.

Well the only real place you could have oil leaking that much from would be the rear wall on the intake... how long did you let it sit before driving the car?

like sit there and idle? 5 mins or so. i also never checked my driveway if it was leaking then. but i did hook up an autometer oil pressure gauge from the fitting on the bakc of the block behind the intake.

No like let it sit for the RTV to set up properly.

I would bet you blew the seal out on the rear wall. Run your hands back behind the intake and see if there is a lot of oil back there.

How about your PCV Valve, if thats block, you could of built up positive crank case pressure, blowing the oil out from the cap.

No like let it sit for the RTV to set up properly.

I would bet you blew the seal out on the rear wall. Run your hands back behind the intake and see if there is a lot of oil back there.

oh we had the intake bolted on since thursday. it say for at leas 24 hours. ill check the rear of the intake.

maybe you hooked the vent line from the valve cover on the wrong port on the throttle body.

I would vote on a plugged PCV valve myself. Rare, but it happens, and is easy to check. Just pull it out and see if it rattles.

Clean the underside of the car real good and start the engine. It'll be easier to see where the oil is coming from when you aren't driving around. Manifold pressure will be extremely high with a plugged PCV valve, forcing gases/oil to the weakest parts of the manifold seals, usually the rear of the intake.

ill do that tommaro
