ok well its getting colder and the ac isnt going to be used in my z until spring/summer. i was just wondering if i were to pull the belt off the ac for now how much extra power would i really gain? i figured only a couple.

You'll get about 5-15 HP. However any AC guy that you talk to will tell you that running the AC during the winter from time to time is great insurance against leaky seals and stuck valves.
If your gonna remove your AC (Like I did on my Camaro) take it off for good. Most people remove the AC "system" for the weight savings not the parasitic loss.
Actually I dont thing youll gain anything. When the a/c is not in use the pulley just spins like a idler, theres very little resistance there w/o the compressor clutch engauged.
And ur defroster will suck because it uses the ac system

There is no parasitic loss when you arent running the AC. Leave it alone lol

You'll lose about 30 pds by removing the accessories..

what would weigh more, the belt or blow dryer?

The only advantage you are going to see is to remove any and all of the AC equipment. Thats all.
Its a weight loss move. Taking the belt off, not doing much.

I ran without the AC belt for over a year and I definitely saw a small increase in gas milage(.5 mpg) so that should tell you there is some drag spinning that pulley. Even without the compressor engaged, it's a heavy pulley to be spinning for no reason. I never had any issues with the defroster in the winter, but it won't work as good. Obviously, that's not an issue if it's not a daily driver. I don't use AC but I put the belt back on so the defroster would work in the summer when it fogs up on rainy days. I bet there's a good 3-5 hp to be found.

the ac dries the air making it clear the window faster. Yours may work fine, but it could be better...
