I have a 93 TA with a 94 Firebird rear in it. What series carrier is in that rear? I plan on doing ring and pinion and I dont know if I need a pinion spacer or not. Any input in great. Also any difference in the carrier from being posi or open?

Need more information. What do you know about the donor car?

If I remember correctly they make a thicker ring gear for the 7.5" GM axle. So you won't need a spacer either way.

94 firebird was 3.4 liter 5 spd. To tell the truth I havent done a burnout with this rear yet but I'm assuming its an open rear. This is what I got sofar...

Motive 4.56s
Superior Axles with seals and bearings
ARP ring gear bolts
Powertrack right-lock locking differential


Also, when it says carrier bearings in the install kit does that mean inside bearings too?

IIRC, the 3.4 / M5 cars got either a 3.23 or 3.42 rear - either way you would have a 3 series carrier. I assume that the 4.56s you bought are also for a 3 series carrier? If you know that the gears in the current rear are stock, you can just open it up and look at the ring gear for the number of teeth and then divide. 3.08 and lower means it's a 2 series, 3.23 and higher means it's a 3 series (again, as long is you are sure it's factory).

And yes, the carrier bearings go inside the differential housing.

I wouldnt use the spacer, buy the correct gears.

Reviving an old thread but finally I am building this rear tomorrow. Just looked up ALL the part numbers and they are all correct should be an easy job. And yes its a 3 series carrier and I have a 3 series ring and pinion set.
