Im getting a 98 Z with an auto and 2:73's Its completely stock . Its gonna need help out of the hole . Should I do the 3600 vig conveter or a set of gears 1st ? I was thinking 4:10's because I dont think 3:73's are going to make much of a change . It not a D/D just a weekend /fun ride .
Of course Im gonna do the basics too (Lid ,Exhaust and a LS6 intake)

4.10s are a bit steep for an auto unless it's gonna be at the drag strip often on a taller than stock tire.

3600 will be very nice, do not go 4.10's 3.73's will be good or stock 3.42's.

I have 4.10s and I wish i had a 3.73 gear. Granted I have a totally different setup but I think its too much gear for the street. You'll probably see some noticable gains in times with just a new converter, a tune, and the basic bolt ons

With the 3.23 gears go with a SS4000 converter.

For a stock motor i would go with 3.42 first (this will give you the best of both worlds) remember your tranny has a deep 1st gear)....
For the converter I would talk to the guys at pro torque converter. http://www.protorque.com/ (i have their 2800 rpm stall in my car (383 procharger car with 3.23 gears and i love it because its nice around town put when you punch it it will flash to a little over 3000 rpm giving you the punch you want for steet /strip ..... i blew up the vig on the dyno and will never go back to them this converter has took everything i threw at it (and will well over 600 pounds of torque) the vig did not last long under boost..
I see to many people putting in 3000 + rpm stalls on stock motors and trannys way over kill plus on a stock trannys wont like the added heat which will lead to a early death to the tranny...

I had a vig 3600 in my car before it broke ran a best of a 1.61 60' loved it. Right now I have a protorque 2800 in my car with the best of a 1.71 60'. I felt the biggest difference with the stall over the the gear change from a 3.46 to a 3.91. It isn't a pain on the street with the converter like a lot of people make out it is.
We can get you a Vig 3600 single disc lockup for $710.00 let me know if you are interested.

Even with 2.73 gears a converter would help alot.

why bother getting 3:73 installed why not just seek out someone with a 3:42 rear out of a 6 speed car or even a 3:23 rear (would be far easier to swap out the rear then gears) just an idea
Also i would also consider a 2800 rpm stall instead of a 3200 rpm (in the long run the 2800 would be much better on a street driven car then the 3200 rpm) unless you are going to see a ton of track time and run a cam that requires such a high stall if not in my opinion its a waste to have such a high stall.

That is good advise .I was looking for a whole rear ,but sometimes you really dont know what youre getting . It might have posi or bearing issues ?? Devin at WHIPLASH PERFORMANCE is hooking me up with a set of gears and an install kit at a great price . This way I know Ill have new gears ,bearings and fresh fluids .As far as doing the gears ,it shouldn't be too bad .Ive done 4 sets of gears on different cars .How bad could it be ? LOL
The converter is a different story . I plan on putting a healthy cam in it in the spring .Not too much track time ,but its not a D/D ,so Im looking to go as fast as I can and still be as reliable as a D/D. Besides ,I need all the help I can get . :fight: My one friend at work has a 2003 Z06 ( 376 rwhp) and my other friend has a Nissan 240sx with a big honking turbo (2500 pounds -379 rwhp) Ive got to get them out of the hole at least

Yes , I noticed that . My car really starts to pull @ 3900 rpm . I figure a nice stall and it will be a lot of fun

yes the 3200 vig i was nice when your playing around but, it was annoying for everyday driving..
How big of a cam are you going (are you keeping the stock heads or are you going to have them ported?)

Not sure how big of a cam . I have to do more research . Right now the plan is leave the heads alone .I figure torque conv. ,suspension next ,wheels/tires . In the spring ,LT headers Ls6 intake and cam. But plans sometimes change . :-? 1 step at a time . Right ? Just trying to look at the big picture and match everything .
