View Full Version : 1987 Pontiac Formula, $600 OBO
Mulletbird

For sale is a 1987 Firebird Formula. Original motor was a 305, but it now has a 350 with more than a little work. The vehicle does not crank (needs some wiring work ... again), smokes badly, basically, it is in need of some serious TLC, but it will make a great parts car or project.
Carburetor - recently rebuilt (virtually no running time on it) Holley 4bbl performance carburetor - 650cfm.
Intake - Edelbrock Performer, good shape, just recently sodablasted.
Ignition - MSD Distributor, NEW copper plugs and wires
Engine Block - taken from unknown car, a 350 sbc, with at least a 0.060" bore, cam'd, rebuilt heads. Engine does not run good, will need some work.
Body - Fisher body, some rust (consistant with age/location - was a Michigan car), Trans Am hood, rear spoiler, originally formula yellow, repainted a red metallic with gray stripe. WS6/Formula, was 1/3498 built in 1987 with the 305 700r4 and ws6 options (makes it a "Collector's Car").
Wheels/Tires - (1) set of Trans Am 16" wheels with Hankook Ventus tires, need inflation (sat for 6 mo +) but they should be balanced well. (1) set of unknown 15" aluminum (light!) wheels, with dry-rotted tires.
Exhaust: factory manifolds, Y-pipe to single 3", cat delete, factory muffler. Minimal exhaust rust last I checked, besides the manifolds.
Interior: missing some parts, and needs some cleaning.
Fuel System: Brand new fuel pump (was mixing oil and fuel), new fuel lines. Fuel tank does need to be drained of old fuel.
The car will need to be trailered. If you're willing to wait until winter or later, I will have the trailer registered, so if you have a good, solid work truck you can buy the two as a package deal. Or, you can just go to the U-Haul nearby (there's one on Rt. 31 in Amwell, another couple in Ewing on Olden and Princeton Pike) and rent one, come by, pick up the car, and head home.
I am in West Virginia right now, but can go home for the weekend if you want to buy the car (only a few hours each way). The car has to go ... I do need $$$ for college, and don't have the money or time to work on the old "mulletbird".

See link for pics. I'm sure I have a topic here somewhere with the pics, but yeah. I repainted the front bumper after these pics ... close to the same color, but not quite, with a new gray stripe painted on the bottom, new black for the rubber strips on the front bumper. Looks fairly good.

No accidents, 65k miles total on odometer, you can run the carfax (I have a copy somewhere ... 8 owners I believe). VIN# is 1G2FS21H1HN236213 (I've actually memorized my VIN number ... jeez).

Can you possibly send some motor/interior/current body shots to camaro2you@msn.com, thanks in advance.

I could dig up the ones I took shortly before leaving ... the car went to my mechanic, he actually fixed a bunch of stuff while it was there (had reversed the hoses to the carb, as I thought I had). Sorry, but I'm not going to drive all the way back just to take some pics (does cost about $80 each way) unless you'll cover my expenses in advance, lol. I know that won't happen.
To All: Sorry in advance if I'm a little late in updating/sending stuff, but I just got a new computer, and have to transfer all my files over.

is anyone available at your house to show the car?

My dad is, I'm sure. I'll have to find out if it's still outside (from when the mechanic, John, brought it back) or if it's in the garage now. If it's outside, you can just stop by anytime and take a look. It needs some wiring work, as the starter circuit shorted out somewhere again, so it won't crank.

did you buy this car from a kid named LJ by any chance?

Nope, a friend of mine named Frank (went to college with him, helped him work on it). I'm sure none of you know him; from Atlanta, went to college in Michigan with me. Car was in Michigan for all but the last year/year and a half, since I took it to NJ.

Since I didn't mention this ... here goes nothing.
1) I already have a TON of offers for this car within a week of posting the ad. Please understand, who gets the car will come down to first: whoever is available when I am (and once I am feeling better), and second: whoever contacted me first.
2) If the buyer isn't interested in the aluminum wheels, I will knock the price down $50 (to $550) and sell it without them.
PM replies are being sent as quick as possible. Since I am quite sick right now, although I am back home in NJ, I will be unable to show the car. But, it is outside, and the address is being PM'd to all interested parties.
Thanks all!

Okay people, I have the title ready to be signed, and am feeling a whole lot better now (not sick). So, asking $600 for the car with both sets of wheels, $550 without the aluminum wheels. HAS TO GO!
glad to hear your feeling better now man..you really sounded horrible
going today to look at a car trailer and if i get it..and how much i get it for will be the deciding factor in whether i can come get the formy from you

Car's still available for sale...
a friend of mine has a 3rd genner ('86 firebird v6) with a clean interior, so if my car doesn't sell soon, I might buy his and try and frankenstein something together. Who knows if it'll ever run with me tuning it, but worth a try imo.

Yes. And right now, I'm back at classes ... not sick now. My dad can probably show you the car since he's home right now. Or you can just stop by and look at it. I should be back either this weekend or next, as I do need to bring some stuff home and bring stuff from home to WV, so if you stop by and are interested, I can head back and sign the title over.
btw - one more part I forgot to mention (jeez ... there's a lot of parts in this car already!) is that after I bought the car, I took it to a dyno day sponsored by the college (free dyno pull? Just got the car? sweet!) Unfortunately, I snapped both motor mounts and the trans mount (all the mounts!) around 1500rpm's, so I got polyurethane motor mounts put in (red ... kinda matches the car) and a factory trans mount. Figured the old mounts were just old/cracked, and were going to go regardless, but since it was just another $25, I got the polyurethane ones.

My dad is at home, home phone number is:
609-912-1175
Also, my cell # is 314-276-5719 (I'm in classes a lot, but I will return your call ASAP).
He can't sign the title, although it is at home (I just don't trust him to give me the money ... he's taken $$$ from me before). If you want to come by this weekend and buy it, I can drive out there. Just please do me a favor, and stop by (address: 22 Merion Place, Lawrence, NJ 08648) and take a look at the car, make sure you're 100% interested in buying (at least look at the exterior, what you can see of the interior, etc. etc. etc.) so I don't drive 800-900 miles for nothing. I don't mind the drive, but would prefer to not make it and then find out you're no longer interested. Car is still sitting outside.
Also, do you want it with the aluminum wheels or without? If with, I'll clean 'em up (they're dirty from sitting outside for a few months ... got them inside last week), otherwise, well, I'll wait until later.
Thanks, and good luck man!

so ... ellesswon, still interested? I need to know by tomorrow, as I will either move my HHR to the far side of town for the game (I have to move it for home football games) or over to my friend's apartment and then pack up to head home.

Well, the thing is, as I said earlier, I'm not driving 434-ish miles each way in the off chance you'll buy it. So, stop by whenever you can, and let me know at least the Thursday before if you're really interested (basically, just walk around the car, look inside, see if it's good enough or not).

So, do you want to come by Monday or Tuesday to pick it up? Otherwise, I'm just gonna get to work fixing it up myself, I just can't stand to see a broken-down car sitting around in my driveway. The engineer in me just says I have to fix it.
