I just bought a 2002 camaro z28, a4, it only has 35,000 miles on it. This is my first f-body. I got a really great deal on it so I looked past the whine. The rear whines all the time. It whines more under load and in deceleration. I dont know whats wrong but i know its not good. The trans is fine and shifts well. I am going to have it looked at soon but thought i would get some opinions here first. What do you all think? Thanks in advance!

If the whine is louder under load , its probably the pinion bearing or the ring and pinion itself .Just in case make sure you check your tires too . Maybe theyre chopped ?? But they would be noisey all of the time .

Does it still have the stock ring and pinion gears?

purchase a new set of gears w/ a installation kit (includes bearings shims etc..) install it and the noise will go away
(if installed right and has proper pinion-ring depth!!!)

Its a completely stock rear. I dont really have to cash for new gears or the need at this point so I may have a professional look at it. I just changed the gear oil to Royal Purple Max Gear. It still whines. It does whine more under load. I dont really know what to think because ive heard all fbody rear ends whine alot. I guess i should just get a louder exhaust and forget about it haha.

lol there ya go! all my stock 10bolts have done that, even a 12 bolt that i had whined. i put a support cover on my current 10bolt and changed the fluid, it helped quiet it down some.
