This wednesday, I'm going in for a discogram.
http://www.allaboutbackpain.com/html/spine_diagnostics/spine_diagnostics_discogram.html

They give me one shot in the right side front of the neck to numb about 1/2 inch deep. That is the extent if the pain killers I am allowed.

They then do three seperate injections - each one is a needle within a needle - and they go into the C3 to C4 (herniated disc), C4 to C5 (torn disc), and C5 to C6 (healthy one, but we are using it as a contrast).

I'll have the results right away as a healthy disc there is no pain - one that is not, there is pain. So, the results will let me know how many spinal fusions I'll be having.

My doctor has advised me that the pain is immediate and horrific - isn't that sexy?

I then see my spinal surgeon on the 20th to schedule surgery.

While I do not want to have the surgery, all the doctors I have seen, and my research, all confirm the same thing.

 <--- me doing the happy dance as I am getting closer and closer to being out of pain!

:grampsch: <--- the extent of me and racing for the next year

OUCH!! Just reading about this makes me ill and feel sick. Best of luck and I hope you can give us some better news then what has been in your threads.

yeah, bro, that "instant and horrific" is a pretty good description. just thinking about that sends shivers down my back.

i think i had just about every conceivable diagnostic done before and after surgery. some of them didn't hurt at all (x-ray) and some were far worse than the pain i was feeling with the disc being herniated (emg, dg, cats with contrast).
