lets not jump to conclusions yet. while I have my suspicions, I have heard reports that he is an American who could have possibly converted to Islam and changed his name then. he served 8 years enlisted in the Army and went through the ROTC program at Virginia Tech in 1997. pretty normal on paper. Hold your final judgments until we have all the facts.

ill be the devils advocate on this one. We have no reason why it was done. It couldve been totally explainable and justifiable. Just because he screams ALLAHU AKBAR doesnt automatically make him a horrible person. He was a military psych doctor.
I feel like some of these soldiers probably did something to set off this other one...such as hazing, intimidation and plain out bullying over him being islamic.
if this is a case of such then good for him.

Good for him that he went on a killing spree? So by your theory the kids in Columbine were justified right? That's a pretty bold statement man.
Anyway, what a **** situation. You sign up to protect this country knowing you might face death overseas in a time of war, the last thing you'd expect is to have to watch your back here on your own soil, from a brother in arms....scary stuff.

Yeah, don't forget that guy was a very famous admiral.
Anyway you try and dissect it, it's still a raw deal and a tragedy.
I would guess that it's more of a "hey, I went off the handle after listening to too many mental patients" vs. "I have an Islamic sounding name". But I've been wrong before.

allahu akbar = God is the Greatest.
as for the good for the comment...you need to read the beforehand to that as well....''if this is the case.'' If he was hazed or intimidated to the point to where he would go on a killing spree then obviously people turned a blind eye towards it. you cant ignore a bad situation and not expect it to explode.

I read you entire post, killing someone because you were hazed still isn't justifiable. If that was the case there would be shootings in every college across the country.
But it's all speculation so there's no real point in even discussing it, it was just a ****ed up comment, lol.

Yea man.... there are not to many things that could come close to justifying a random killing spree... :|
he was a major, you don't haze majors.
they have reported that he had been spending a lot of time on Islamic message boards and websites and that he was even commending the suicide bombers by saying that they were just like "soldiers who dove on grenades to save their fellow soldiers.
it also says he has been Muslim his entire life, or at least since before he enlisted, as it was his stated religion when he joined.

Every report I read said he converted to Islam. To me that makes no difference at this point. Until the truth comes out he was a soldier that lost his mind....until reports say otherwise his religion had nothing to do with it...but he is in fact Muslim.

I'm on a bunch of different boards/news sites and an incident like this is bringing out the idiots. They're saying that we should round up any and all Muslims and people of Arab descent and put them in camps like we did with the Japanese in WW2...really? People are idiots. These are also the same people that whine about how Obama and his cronies pretty much think the Constitution is a joke(which they have a point) but they're will to ignore it in this case? Gimme a ****ing break. Of course I've been labeled as a bleeding heart liberal now which is funny because that's the furthest thing from the truth. Oh well, I guess looking at the big picture and using some common sense is foolish.

i agree.
however, some people's minds break. it's not rational to pick up a firearm, point it at another human being and pull the trigger. they do tons of stuff in the military to desensitize you to that so that when the time comes you don't even hesitate, you just pull the trigger. so for a soldier, it's not that big of a leap to get from "everything's ok" to "say hello to my little friend".
they are blaming the first shooting on the fact that his car got keyed and his bumper sticker, written in arabic, was vandalized. how people can be so thoughtless of another human's feelings, in this day and age, having gone through the whole "political correctness" era, is beyond me.
for people to scream that we should round them up and put them in camps is not that hard to believe. these are the same people that think "megan's law" and laws like it, including banning certain firearms, make them feel more safe and secure. even after the wakeup call that was 9/11.
my wife and i just started discussing living in florida. i guess no place is safe, anymore.

I just find it odd, the Police now come out with a statement knowing he was goign onto the muslim sites this didn't raising any suspision? regardless if he was in the military or not, you think they would of watched him, and alerted his superior to keep an eye on him.
they were keeping an eye on him:
At least six months ago, Hasan came to the attention of law enforcement officials because of Internet postings about suicide bombings and other threats, including posts that equated suicide bombers to soldiers who throw themselves on a grenade to save the lives of their comrades.
They had not confirmed Hasan is the author of the posting, and a formal investigation had not been opened before the shooting, said law enforcement officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to discuss the case.
Federal authorities seized Hasan's computer Friday during a search of his apartment in Killeen, Texas, said a U.S. military official who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the ongoing investigation.
His anger was noted by a classmate, who said Hasan "viewed the war against terror" as a "war against Islam."
Dr. Val Finnell, a classmate of Hasan's at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, attended a master's in public health program in 2007-2008. Finnell says he got to know Hasan because the group of public health students took an environmental health class together. At the end of the class, everyone had to give a presentation. Classmates wrote on topics such as dry cleaning chemicals and mold in homes, but Finnell said Hasan chose the war against terror. Finnell described Hasan as a "vociferous opponent" of the terror war. Finnell said Hasan told classmates he was "a Muslim first and an American second."
Hasan recently was involved in a spat with another Fort Hood soldier residing in his apartment complex, apparently related to his Muslim beliefs.
The manager of the complex, John Thompson, said the other soldier, John Van de Walker, allegedly keyed Hasan's car and also removed and tore up a bumper sticker that read "Allah is Love." Thompson said Van de Walker had been in Iraq and was upset to learn that Hasan was Muslim.
A report filed with Killeen police on Aug. 16 indicates that Hasan's vehicle, a 2006 Honda Civic, had been scratched by an unknown object causing an estimated $1,000 worth of damage. The report indicates that Van de Walker, 30, was arrested on Oct. 21 and charged with criminal mischief. The matter has been referred for prosecution, according to the report.
The phone number for Van de Walker wasn't in service Friday, and Thompson, the apartment manager, said he had moved out of the complex.
In an interview with The Washington Post, Hasan's aunt, Noel Hasan of Falls Church, Va., said he had been harassed about being a Muslim in the years after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and he wanted to get out of the Army.
they said that an "investigation" hadn't been launched yet, but that they were keeping his comments on the war on terror for later use, presumably against him.
