Roommate had it, gave it to me...f'in sweeeeeeeeeeeet.

This whole thing is so overrated. A fever, some coughing and sneezing..OMG the HORROR

I had 3 people ask me why I'm not in the hospital. Gotta love fear spread by the media.

This is the first time I've been sick in years...so I'm being a big baby but still....I don't understand the hype.

No, I'm assuming it is since that's what my roommate had. I don't have health insurance so I'm not paying for some doctor to tell me I'm sick lol

H1N1 is deadly, so either you need to be worried, or you don't have it. Do a search on yahoo for the symptoms.

Hope you feel better.

H1N1 is NOT as deadly as people are lead to believe...the people that have died either died from other complications(heart disease, lung disease, reduce immune system from cancer, AIDS etc) or it turned into something else. That's the part the media doesn't tell you, they just say X amount of people died...when in reality there's more to the story.

This is no stronger than the regular flu...this entire thing has been blown WAY out of proportion by the media(I'll keep politics out of this). It does hit some people harder but there is no need for widespread panic. That's directly from friends that are nurses, doctors, NP's etc.

I have a friend who's daughter had it last year (diagnosed as H1N1). It is just another strain of the flu. She kept drinking gatorade, stayed home from school, and did just fine.

That is exactly why it is deadly. It often goes into pneumonia, and often young people think they have a chest cold, next thing you are in emergency trying to get all the crap pumped out of your lungs so you can breath and not die.

Its not the flu, its what it does to your body and lets anything else you might get killl you.

Just keep it in check and don't run your self down and you will be OK.

FWIW, I won't be taking a h1n1 flu shot. Just got the regular swine flu a few weeks back, thats good enough for me.

....and you're not going to tell me anything otherwise...the media is blowing this out of proportion. I know plenty of people that had it and were perfectly fine...and I'm taking advice from medical professions that have a brain...not FoxNews and MSNBC.

It can turn into other things...but it depends on the person.

^Regular flu kills more people annually than the h1n1 has. I hate how the news hypes all this crap up. Im not getting the shot never gotten a flu shot before, and never had the flu. My mom had h1n1, I got sick for a few days afterward coughing, congested, runny nose, nothing serious.

Frosty
11-12-2009, 10:45 AM
I've never had a flu shot either. I don't know for sure it's what I have but I've been exposed to it for a week now and I haven't been sick in years(and that's no exaggeration).

Could it be just a cold? Sure but I doubt it.

...and yes, the regular flu has killed way more people than this H1N1 BS. But then again most people just go with whatever is said on the news without doing their own research.

Ok for clarification

h1n1 == Swineflu

Its the same thing except the first scared we called it swine flu now we're calling it H1N1 because they've had time to study it etc and know exactly what makes the strain different.

Idk if you guys read this but back when the first scare happened when they were estimating it was gonna erupt in plague like death numbers when it spread and everyone was freaking out, when all was said and done CDC published and article that basically said "oops we over reacted really bad, its just the flu"

It is also being called H1N1 because nobody was buying pig products. Not kidding. Thank the media.

H1N1 is over hyped...... its all in the media. The dont tell you on the news every time someone with the regular flu dies. My mom had it for about 2 weeks. She felt terrible and stayed home and got some rest. She is fine now and back to work!

To date for this year so far, the regular Flu has killed more then H1N1 strain has.
Not a lifetime vs lifetime thing.

I have something, but its not H1N1. I went on the CDC's site to hear the symptoms, and its just like the regular flu.
I have head and chest congestion,
Had a runny nose, thats gone now
but no body aches, no vomiting or other,
No fever or cold sweats
But now I have an ear infection...ugh.

The deal with H1N1 isnt that is some deadly strain, its that we havent seen this strain for some 40+ years. Older generation (Scott, James, etc etc..) have already tasted it. Old Man Bill probably saw it 2-3 times in his lifespan.
Flu usally kills the old and sickly, but H1N1 has also killed some who have no underlying health issues, another concern. I think we as a society have shrugged off the Flu as just another type of cold, same with Strep or the like.

Sorry, but its not. I don't think you can get the h1n1 shot if you wanted to. Its the one that is in short supply. Anyone can get the regular flu shot, its available at supermarkets, even some Walmarts.

Go back and read BigAls87Z28 post above if you want a second opinion.

I don't mean any disrespect but you're completely wrong. Swine flu IS H1N1. It was renamed due to the reasons listed earlier in this thread. You're able to get the "regular" flu shot just about anywhere and you can also get the swine/H1N1 shot depending on your location and availability.

There are currently 3 companies(as far as I know) making the swine/H1N1 shot/vaccine. There's a nasal application and an actual shot.

Ok, I did get educated. Here are the facts as presented by the CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention):

Questions & Answers
This document includes questions and answers about the seasonal flu shot. For information about the 2009 H1N1 flu vaccine, see http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/vaccination/

What is the flu shot?

The flu shot is an inactivated vaccine (containing killed virus) that is given with a needle, usually in the arm. It contains three seasonal influenza viruses. The three seasonal vaccine viruses – one A (H3N2) virus, one regular seasonal influenza A (H1N1) virus (not the 2009 H1N1 virus), and one B virus – are representative of the seasonal influenza vaccine strains recommended for that year. Viruses for the flu shot are grown in eggs. A seasonal flu shot will not protect against 2009 H1N1 flu.
http://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/qa/flushot.htm

Yep, that is from the horses mouth. See stupid people like me have to double check the factually correct info I posted before to be sure its right. So 2009 H1N1 is not the same as A (H1N1)

And yes, there is a special vaccine just for 2009 (H1N1)

If you want to argue the point, please do it with the CDC, as I am apparently too stupid to discuss things of this nature with you geniuses.

Swine flu and Avian flu are strains of H1N1, influenza A.

Quoted because I guess I was not clear.

Swine flu, like Avian flu, is a strain of the H1N1 virus.

Saying that H1N1 = Swine Flu implies that all types of H1N1 are Swine Flu, which is wrong.

However, Swine Flu H1N1 is a subset of the H1N1 virus classification. So Swine Flu IS H1N1.

This is essentially like having a set of "Chevy V8s" and a subset of "Gen III"s.

ALL Gen IIIs are Chevy V8s.
NOT all Chevy V8s are Gen IIIs.

Frosty

For the purpose of this discussion/this thread swine flu and H1N1 are are one in the same. We could break down the different strains, avian flu etc but it wouldn't really matter. For someone to say they got the "regular swine flu" shot but the H1N1 shot isn't available...makes....no...sense...lol
