three questions about an aluminum ds

ok i have a 96 camaro with the 3.8, and i have to replace the rear main seal on the motor so i have to drop the shaft and tranny out. i was thinking of replacing the stock steel two piece to an aluminum ds. first question is, the length of the shaft a problem for the v6 models, is it too long or too short? Second is if the length is fine, do i have to change out the joints? and third i found one locally for 130 bucks, is that too much?

All stock driveshafts from 82-02 are interchangeable (with the possible exception of some 82-83 cars). U joints are also all the same.

Whether or not that is a good price depends on what type of driveshaft it is. I paid $50 for my stock LS1 aluminum driveshaft, but if that is an aftermarket shaft, it is likely a good buy.

130 is about average from what ive seen. $100 is a good deal

Yes the A/D will work in a 3.8 car. I did the swap on my 98 V6. Its a direct bolt on. Its a good mod with some good power gains ( or free up) . Anything to get rid of that POS 2 piece.

Wait till you take it out, and then hold an A/D, you'll wonder why you didnt do this mod earlier, 15lbs. is quite a difference.
