Damn. I thought Fritz wouldn't last long, but I figured he be there at least a year. Wonder what went down.

Actually, I'd love to see a GM enthusiast like Al running that miserable company. So long Fritz, you suck.

You can look at it two ways.
1) He was a GM lifer, and with that attitude he wont be able to break out of the GM mentality.
2) He was a much harder driven guy then Rick was. He was much more agressive on dealing with the matters at hand.
The Admin of GMI, Nick, was hanging with Caddy and Chevy Exec's in LA when the call was made today, and they were very shocked by it.
In other news...thats what you get when you cross the Might Lutz.
No G8 you say, eh? GOEFYOURSELF

In the end, no one expected him to last that long. Might have lasted till the IPO next year, but I think he rubbed Ed the wrong way on a lot of things. #1 is the Saab deal, #2 RWD sedans for GM NA/head to head with Lutz, and a 2% drop in sales this month.

Something strange is going on with GM. I was seriously looking to buy a new car at the end of Aug and have money on my GM card to use. With the end of model year discounts, the tax credit and my GM card money I found what I wanted and contacted a couple of dealers to locate the car for me at my price. All they did was find cars marked up a couple grand more than a realistic number. When the dealer lets you get up and walk out and never contacts you again and they know you were looking to put $10K down on the new car, that tells me they are not really trying to sell cars right now. I think they are trying to mess up the numbers for some reason. I didn't think there was any way he was stepping down. What a freakin mess!

Yes, Whit was appointed by the federal auto commission....don't remember the formal name. He was a big shot at AT&T for years, and is one of the "industry outsiders" that they wanted to bring in for a fresh take.

Ahhh yeah, OK, it is who I thought it was. He's the same guy that thumbed his nose at the law when Bush and his boys told him wire tap AT&T customers.

Good way to lose daddy's severance - these guys have contracts that say they 'retired' or such.

Realize that GM has no relation to your dealer outside that the dealer sells GM cars. Its a shame that GM cannot have more control of it.
I had a quazi ****** experiance at my dealer, and I still walked away uneasy after fighting for 3 days.
I really really really wish I worked at a dealer part time so that I could try and help good, honest, hard working people. But I probably wouldnt last long.
Big Ed is from AT&T, and did help break up a lot of the union's in AT&T. He was piced by the ATF, not Obama...jesus you guys cant give this dude a ****in break, can you?
They wanted him for his outside opinion, and for his work in the past.
As for a new CEO, I dont know if they are gunna get anyone worth much. Mullaly came out from Boeing for a LOT more money then GM can spend.
And whats his face...Mr.Home Depot, ran HD and then Chrylser into a wall with poor product. Even the mighty Jim Press-son, the highest ranking American in Toyota could do nothing for them.
Ed will move foward with a lot of back-burner programs, and I think he really likes Lutz and he will have free reign over the land of GM. This could be very good.

Al, I wasn't ripping on Obama  I just thought he was on the one that appointed him. Trust me, if I wanted to rip on that piece of **** I would...but I wasn't.
BigAls87Z28

Ugh..wont start either
He wasnt. Obama doesnt want to run a car company. Neither does the goverment, but they are doing a better job now then when it was a public company for 100 years.
Finding a replacement is going to be real real hard. You have a hard driving boss, coming into a company that is in the middle of a massive paradigm shift, and are responsible for millions of jobs across the world. And your pay will be dicated by what the public thinks is a good price.

Rushing through bankruptcy court in record time and having Uncle Sam back you can do that
They're still losing money on the books but hopefully they'll show some type of profit in next 2 quarters, on the books of course.

Not to mention that whole Volt deal is eating up a ton of R&D cash...

Sounds a whole lot like the current administrations health care plans!
Eats a ton of cash, no real positive outcome, but what the hell, the taxpayers are footing it!
Oh wait... GM is govt now...
Win!

That's why I said "on the books" ;) Also factored in are the loan repayments. Even though they lost billions again this quarter there's more to it than just that.

I'm holding out faith...I didn't like the bailout but if it works then it works. I'm keeping the faith.
As for healthcare...I'm not touching that subject because it'll get the thread locked...

Fritz = the CEO of GM that just "stepped down"
Whitacre = Chairman and Interim CEO
Lutz = Vice Chairman
It's all laid out in the link in the first post.
