Yea.. they couldn't afford it so they stopped making that version from what I gather.
Older versions could do it.
Get a new NFS...
No the new PS3 will not play PS2 games, but it will play PS1 games.

The first version (80gig I think it was) could play all PS1, PS2, and PS3 games as it had the physical hardware inside to do so. The other versions (60 gig, 120gig) don't have that. Sony decided to switch over to what Microsoft does with the 360 and do it as a software upgrade and at Sony's discretion as to what games can and can't be played. So if you can find an older 80gig version (I think that's the one it was) then that's what you want to get.
I'm sure if you ignore their product and don't buy anything made by Sony they will make you a version that is backwards compatible so you can play NFS.
You can probably pick up a used version for 20 bucks, is it really that big of a deal?
Yup, it was the 80gig, sheep lover is correct.

yeah and this is why i got my 80 gig fixed instead of buying the slim. best decision ever.

How often do you really play ps2 games, I know prior to getting PS3 I haven't touched my ps2 in several months, plus new games + better graphics > older games, worse graphics.

I could see if your PS2 burnt out and you wanted to kill 2 birds with 1 stone by buying a PS3 but damn dude...relax a bit, you'll live longer.

the new ps3 is not ps2 compatible because they want people to buy ps3 games, once the ps3 game sales increase they will release a software update for the ps2 compatibility.

that will never happen, they stopped making them with the ps2 function because of the cost to make it with it, they wouldnt of been able to drop the prices with it. an update would not make a ps3 able to read ps2 games

You should try out a couple games on a backwards compatable PS3 before you get one. Was playing PS2 guitar hero on PS3 and it was really glitchy. Froze a couple times too. You'd be better off keeping the PS2 if its only for one game. Get a couple PS3 games and you'll forget they ever made a PS2

There are a couple really good PS2 games that I'm sure won't come out for the PS3 because of development costs, like NHRA: Countdown to the Championship, and Monster Jam.

Get a Blu Ray player and keep your PS2 or Get a 360 and call it a day. I have had 2 PS3's A 20 gig that was backwards compatable which broke in 90 days and now my 40 gig which is not backwards compatable. I use it for a DVD player. Back when I got it the BR players were still expensive but now you can pick one up for 125.00 ( BR player). So in essence you can get a BR player and a Xbox 360 for 350.00 then you would have the best game system and a great dvd player. Besides all of the reasons I got a PS3 ( Metal Gear solid, FF, silent hill, Resident evil, GTA) Have all been out on the 360 now or will when they come out next year.

My bad MGS Games from now on will be realised on Xbox the same day it comes out on Playstation. I have MGS4 or had it on PS3 but from now on will get them on Xbox because it is a better gaming system. same with FF. Oh and I have given up on GT5. That was another reason to get a PS3 but I am convinced that the game will not come out anytime soon and I am content with Forza and the up coming Test Drive Unlimited 2 on the 360.
The fact is Xbox still has its big hitters and the PS3 is loosing all but a couple of its.. GT, God of War are really the only other games I care to own on the PS3. There is a reason why the PS3 is still in last place by almost 10 million units!! I mean when there is more people on Xbox live then there are who own PS3's there is a problem.

Maybe you missed that.
Which games are "better" is a pretty subjective topic, it all depends on what a particular person likes. So that's not even worth debating.
That rumor about MGS has been around ever since, well I guess ever since xbox came out.. Hell they even made their own knock off version, splinter cell (which is on PS3).

Um it is no rumor. I guess you missed the E3 this year. Kojomi ( Or whatever his name is ) confirmed that MGS will be on 360 the same time it is coming on PS. You can go on the XBL marketplace and check out the preview of MGS 5 Rising Coming late next year.
And according to this thread the person likes PS2 games which he cant play on the PS3. I am just offering other options since I was a PS2 gamer who purchased a PS3 and was really dissapointed in it.

He's just too lazy to buy the same game which will look better. And if he gets an xbox that will hardly allow him to play his old ps2 games on it, so that's a waste (I know you said he can keep ps2 in addition to buying a blue ray < -- holy shelf cluster****). And just because you were "disappointed" by whatever doesn't mean that ps3 is somehow inferior. The whole x is better than y is tiring, I hate stupid console fanboys.

You forgot to mention that the 360 comes with 2 games, and HD/HDMI Cable. My 40 gig PS3 didnt even come with HD cables at all and my old 20 gig didnt have a Wireless network adapter nor came with HD cables.
both my 360 and PS3 are wired in to my Router. Dont like the wireless thing. I have a nice laptop to surf the internet so I really dont care if the PS3 can surf the net. I took some pics of my Elites controller next to my PS3 controller and wii controller.
But having both the PS3 Netfilx and 360 Netflix the quality on the Xbox is alot better.
Oh come on man! Put the fanboy glasses down. According to the VP of Netflix the streaming standard is the same for all independent devices, PC, XBOX, and PS3.. So what would make the quality so much better on xbox? Unless netflix streams in HD to xbox, which I don't think is the case, it's simply not true.
I watched a movie with the gf recently via netflix stream and it looked like a normal dvd, nothing better, nothing worse. After watching bluray it makes me not want to watch dvd's anymore.
Plus I found out this additional tidbit, one needs xbox gold membership (or w/e is called) to access netflix? So you have to pay twice? by this I mean netflix and xbox yearly dues? Sounds like a screw job.

I was recently at Best Buy and the games that come in xbox bundle were lego batman and some other crap. Sorry, but I would throw those games in a dumpster. I know that games are personal preference and all, but those were garbage. As far as xbox having a better collection of games that's a personal preference, I have yet to find a game that I want to play and that is not available to me. And no I do not want to play Halo.
And as you mentioned in your other post, we are talking about now. They don't make the non wireless PS3 anymore. It's either 120gig $299 or 349 for 250gig. So that point as moot, because OP would be buying one right now, not some pre used pos 20 gig from god knows when.
As far as HDMI cables go, you can buy a 6 ft HDMI cable for 5 bucks, that's hardly worth any argument.
Oh, and you should use Bluray instead of DVD's - waay better.
EDIT* controllers are all about preference, I simply prefer the PS3 one. There can't be any logical argument about MY preference.

actually the xb does not come with hd cables, it comes with basic av
we are talking about current systems, so a 20gb/40gb ps3 do not apply
the xbox comes with lego batman and pure, big woop, you have to replace the system in 2 years anyway when it rr's
as of now, the ps3 might have less total games, but has better exclusive games
and blu ray can store more data and better grafix than a regular dvd can
i have both, i play the xbox more, i just hate xb fan boys and how xb is the greatest thing ever made(not saying your one), the xb is the worse system mechanically ever made, even the "fixed" ones break

Um you Really need to spend a day with a 360 to get to know what you are talking about.. Netflix does stream HD on the Xbox. Not all Movies but certain movies stream in HD.. But the standard Definition is better on the Xbox as well as the sound. I know this because I HAVE BOTH AND USE THE SAME TV ON BOTH.Both systems are setup 1080p.. Since you dont have both you have nothing to compare it to.
I gladly pay my 4.00 a month for XBL and 8.00 for netflix. I dont know Better quality movies, Best online gaming and envioment vrs the PSN. Gladly!! Like I said there are over 26 million XBL gold members out there. There are more XBL Gold members then there are PS3 owners in the world.
As far as the wireless goes I had a 20 gig PS3 which did not have Wireless. At least I could still play my PS2 games on it.
Bluray is way better then regular DVDs but I dont buy them. Thats another reason I have netflix. I dont like spending 30 + dollars on DVDs.

and blu ray can store more data and better grafix than a regular dvd can
i have both, i play the xbox more, i just hate xb fan boys and how xb is the greatest thing ever made(not saying your one), the xb is the worse system mechanically ever made, even the "fixed" ones break
what i posted was to show the value, not what each indvidual person likes
Both my Xbox elite and 60 gig Xbox came with HDMI cables and the HD Componant cables.
Yes the Xbox did break alot but it also comes with a 3 year warrenty. My 20 Gig PS3 broke after 100 days of having it. The warrenty was a 90 day warrenty and I was SOL. I had to purchase a used 40 gig to take its place. My Elite is going on 3 years without a issue and I traded my 60 Pro for a Wii for my daughter.
So why do you play the XB more?
U the standard Definition is better on the Xbox as well as the sound.
I'll leave it at this  I guess VP of Netflix is a fool. You tell him.

Yea controllers are love or hate type of thing on both systems. Usually if you like xbox controllers you will hate ps3 controllers, reverse also applies.
?
I like them both. They both feel good for the right game.

Becuase they dont stream in HD Like you said right!!
Come over and we can watch a movie on the XB and then one on the PS and tell me which one looks/sounds better.

You said standard definition is better on xbox that ps3. HD is not standard definition, plus you said that it's not for ALL the movies, only for some. Kinda a moot point. Although HD streaming is nice, I'm sure it will be on PS3 soon enough.
Edit* HD streaming is only available for 300 movies.. come on now.

-they havent made xb's with hd cables in awhile
-PS3's have 1 year warranty's
-the new xbox's do not have 3 year warranties, they have 1
-ive personally seen MICROSOFT refurbished 360's come back in a week with rr's (2 different systems in 1 week)
-they said they fixed the problem 2 years ago, when actually they just delayed the rr's on the consoles by a couple months, not to mention even the slightest movement of the xbox with a disk inside will automatically carve a perfect ring into the disc, and you know how much it would cost microsfot to fix the problem? less than $1 a system, but they wont
i play the xbox more because my friends have it, i dont play video games much. i would however take killzone 2 and uncharted over gears and halo any day

Its nice having a console war like this because you get the best out of each system.
I also dread doing a software update on the PS3. I have heard a buch of Horror stories of systems not playing Blurays after install.

you have optimum? i have dsl, it takes like 30-40 min to do updates, but my friend has optimum and never has long updates...so i guess my dsl just sucks
As I'm reading more about this HD streaming for PS3, it's available now but you need a better internet connection than I have. So I'm s.o.l., I'll check tomorrow if I can find any HD titles on the ps3. I won't be able to stream them though. Thanks service electric.

I have service electric cable, it's slow so it takes about 25 - 30 minutes to do updates.

- I guess it is good that I have a old POS console then.
- Like I said above
- I personally had a PS3 Break and Sony on the phone said oh well. Tuff luck. Go buy a new one. Best quality out there!! I use to be a Sony only fanboy. Hell I still had both my PS1 and PS2 untill last year. I would rather have a Xbox break every week on me then have another PS3 go out. I have friends who are on there 7th 360. They say that they dont mind it breaking because they get a refurbed one for free with a new 3 yr warrenty every time and it is a week turnaround.
The problem was the Heat sink lifting off the motherboard. I dont know if they fixed it or not and I really dont care. I have bought 8 360's since 2006. 5 of them given away for gifts and 3 of them I had personally. Never had a problem with one of them nor the people I gave them to. Hell I bought 5 of them in 2006. I bought 2 PS3's since 2006. 1 Broke a little over 3 months of having it and the other is still kicking even though it is used as a BR player. As far as the slightest movement with a game in it that doesnt happen to mine.

Thats one thing Sony should take care of. I had DSL, Fios, and now Comcast and on each service the PS updates take forever. DSL tool 40-50 mins, Fios 15 mins, and now comcast well I havent tried it yet. The Xbox took 5 mins on DSl and is 1 min on the Cable and Fios and it is done. Also I hate having to download a update on the PS3 which takes 30mins and then having to Install it which takes another 5-10 mins.

the new jasper motherboard runs on 12 volts as opposed to 14v (falcon) and 16v for the original...ive spent time with both systems at a friends house...which helped me make my decision. The xbox live i dont mind paying for...its not like your paying for netflix twice your paying for access to everything that xbox live has to offer.
my friends ps3 is hit or miss with the updates...50 percent it takes like an hour to update or the other half it just freezes in the middle. biggest thing ive had happen on live was the game get moved to a new host. worth the 5 bucks a month
Just checked and PS3 does HD streaming, now if only I had faster connection to the internets :-?
Of course xbox still looks better in standard definition and probably HD
At least I learned something from this debate (PS3 HD streaming)

You never know Unless you have the same setup with both systems on the same tv. But when was something you didnt believe to be true, actually be true? Well let me help..
Unless netflix streams in HD to xbox, which I don't think is the case, it's simply not true..
Impossible that Netflix streams in HD!! You shot down the HD streaming when I posted it and even though I said come over and see for yourself you still continue to Shoot down what else I have to say. I am the type of person that wants the best thing out there ( depending on price of course). Thats why I have a BR player (PS3) and a HD DVD player. If the quality was better on the PS3 for netflix then I would say so, but in my case it is not. Maybe it has to do with the stupid netflix disc for the PS3? I dont know. If the quality gets better then the Xbox with future updates then I will praise the PS3 for that but the only thing I praise it for is the BR Player.
If owning a PS3 and Xbox makes me a Xbox Fanboy then so be it. If Me liking to play games, online games, and Netflix better on one then the other a fanboy then so be it. If me liking to watch a Movie on a BR instead of a DVD a fanboy then I guess I am. I am not going to say that a PS3 is better quality then a 360 because I had a PS3 break on me and have not had a 360 break yet. Its alot like a F-body. They have bad raps but you dont appreciate it untill you own one.
