engine and trans mounts

hey guys im going to be upgrading my engine and transmission mounts i was thinking solid motor mounts and a poly trans mount..

what are some good brands i should look into?

and are the solid mounts a pita to install?

I think the only company that does solid mounts is Spohn. 198esp1 just put a set in his car, check with him on the install. Passenger side wasn't too bad, but the driver side was kinda of a PITA. Alternator, steering linkage etc. etc....

I have a set to go on my car, but I've been lazy in getting it done.

Solids will drive the knock sensor crazy...

As they said before... spohn has them, and they say you need a poly tranny mount to run them.

I was going to get solid Spohn mounts, but have heard about people having false knock issues, along with the fact that itll chatter your teeth out, so I decided to just go with poly mounts. I've also heard that a poly trans mount will get beat up really bad with solid mounts since all the movement and vibration is transferred to that mount.

I agree with the above posts. Solid mounts will absolutely throw your ECM for a loop through the knock sensor. All of the vibration is sent through the trans mount and chassis which will eat up tranny mounts faster and rattle your cage as well. I'd highly suggest going with poly's all the way around.

from what i've heard solid motor mounts are easier to install than poly, and actually don't give off too bad of vibration in most cases.

you can pick up the energy suspension poly trans mount at autozone. 3.1108 i believe is the part number. it is recommended that you cut off the 2 bumps on the top and don't use the preload plate. that's what i did. at first i had no noticeable virations, now i have a slight vibration during slow acceleration on the highway and it feels like somethings loose when i hit big bumps. have to check that out soon.

solid is too much for the street. id go poly/poly. youd be surprised how stiff that poly insert really is.

well the car isnt a dd. its only coming out of the garage on nice days. im only planning on driving it like 4-6k miles a year.

its still a street car. And I can't think of any benfit with solid mounts.

I have solid mount in my car you realy dont notice any more nvh, but I drive a gutted, full caged , fully rod ended suspension, aluminum seat,hot rod I can deal with it. For the false knock issue a guy on frrax had the sphon solids and was worried about the knock sensors so he did several hours of data logging on the street and on several road courses and the most he saw was one or two times when the computer pulled a degree or two of timing. So im not overly concerned if i was drag racing, or I was spraying the house down then maybe. I got them for the 9.5 lbs it saved me on the nose of my car.

Save yourself the aggravation and go with the poly mounts. It's a job you only want to do once. Both of them do the exact same thing with one being much more forgiving.
