Picked this 48 Ford truck up from a guy on Craigslist for $300. What you see is what I got except for the hood which isn't pictured. Truck has tons of surface rust but the only substantial rot is the bottom of the driver door and the header panel inside the cab. Plan is to build it into a rat rod on a new frame. Chop the top about 4 inches, no fenders or hood, simple bench seat interior with functional gauges, 350 engine, not sure on trans yet...would like to go manual. Flat or satin black with the shop logo painted on the doors. I'd like to build the entire truck for under $3,000. Won't have a chance to start on it til spring though...way too busy right now.

niiiiiice shop truck, gunna have a bed?

HardcoreZ28

Yeah will need to pick up a bed when the time comes. I'll probably do the chop first then send the cab out to be blasted. Then I'll start on making a frame...will be too much work to try and use the stock one I think. Then I'll worry about the bed, motor, trans, suspension, etc.

Very nice bro. I have always been a fan of old trucks. I'd love to see it when it's finished.

Everyone says flat black is overdone....but I rarely actually see it at shows. I may do satin like my bike.

Only thing that may kill my 3k budget is suspension parts. I can most likely build a frame for $200 in steel. Bench seat in the junkyard can't be more than $50. Hoping to score a motor and trans for $500 or less. Just a matter of getting a front and rear suspension setup. I'm thinking maybe 4 link rear and a suicide perch in the front.

because they're rarely done well enough for shows.. ppl do flat black to hide stuff, not to make it look good. if you do eggshell or satin black it will look wonderful :)

Yeah I think satin is the way to go on this with red/white logo...and some traditional pinstriping.

Would be cool if it was weathered/aged and on the door. Like an old school work truck.

Cool truck, Paul!

I like this idea...only way to do it would be a flathead then though...

Billy your idea is kinda what I have in mind.....RPM logo in faded red/white...I just need to practice the technique.

I could have gotten the flathead that was in it but honestly those things are dogs. Big Jon...just for shiggles shoot me a PM with pricing on motor/trans/rear. I'm probably gonna go 350 since I know Chevy's better but for the right price I could be swayed to the dark blue side.

As for a build log.....once I start the project in spring I'll keep a running log on the shop's website and facebook page so your best bet is to subscribe to that.

Exhaust.....haven't thought much about yet. While I love my obnoxiously loud vehicles I plan to drive this thing a lot so it'll need some type of mufflers or baffles inside the pipes.

My whole reason for going rat rod was to have something I can take out and have fun with, without the stress of worry about scratches, rock chips, and detailing everything again after a short ride.

Its in a 76 Lincoln, I would have to pull them out. Only recently have I thought about selling them since I plan on doing a major sell off of alot of stuff. Give me a few days and let me see if I can make plans for them to come out.
