I know there's alot of folk here that love em' but i'm going on my 3rd xbox 360 in 8 months:banghead:. This is getting ridiculous. I've never had so much trouble with any of my other game console. I'm thinking of switching to PS3. I know my PS2 never had any problems, as a matter of fact, I still have it and it works like it did when I got it new. The quality of the xbox is garbage:barf:and I'm sick and tired of replacing them. The only upside to this situation is I bought the 2year $60 warrenty at BestBuy so I just go and get a new one. But still, I'm tired of it either freezing, not reading the disc on startup (open tray), "upable to read disc" while in the middle of a game, and of coures the dreaded RROD:mad:. When the next Xbox console comes out, I won't be in line for it:???:.
End Rant!

when i bought my 360, i turned it on and tried loading CoD WaW, and got the RROD almost 10 minutes after owning the damn thing. Have a replacement and not a problem since. Still, I would choose my ps3 over my 360 anyday.

I know how you feel man.. I am on my 3rd PS3 now ( Basically). The 1st one was a 20 gig and it decided to not play any video anymore, the second one is a 40 gig and last week decided not to play discs anymore and after sending it in to gamestop and 100.00 more I have a new BR reader and it works fine. It really sucks because I dont have a warrenty and everytime the POS breaks it costs me at least 100.00 to fix it. I have never had a problem with any of my 360's. ( knock on wood) I guess its just luck on which systems break and which ones hold up.

The ps2 had issues when it 1st came out. I had to send back my 1 one for a disc read error code.

Not saying its your fault, but there's a good chance your environment is what's causing so many issues. The 360 is not known for its reliability, yes, but 3 within 8 months is quite excessive.

Is it behind a surge strip? Do you have pets? A lot of hair around? Is the 360 in free space or is it in a cabinet?

what difference does it make? just curious because mine has the same symptoms the OP has..

as for the OP, mine does the same thing...it says open tray, warning message with clean disc, or just freezes. it sucks..me and my lady friend were trying to play fifa 2010 tonight and it took me a good 7-8 minutes to get a game going

360's are very sensitive to both electrical fluctuations and heat. If its not on a surge strip small power spikes can short parts of the box and cause abnormal behaviour. Pet hair eventually clogs fans and overheats the box. If its in a cabinet it also tends to overheat the box - PS3's and 360's need open air.

EDIT: forgot - you should also never leave it flat on carpet. No-no.

His xbox also has a better picture in standard definition than ps3's standard definition...

I have never had a problem with neither PS2 or PS3, hell throw PS1 in there too.

In the other thread I said that I've worked at a game store the past 2 years. In that time I have seen hundreds of defective xboxs, and maybe 3-5 defective ps3's

Ive had mine for about 2 years...not a huge gamer and dont use it a ton but never had any problems w/ mine...thought the problems were only w/ the older consoles.

360 is fun, but pretty crappy reliability, just like everything else Microsoft. When I was playing mine a lot I was going through one system every 4-6 months. I know there was a lawsuit or something that Microsoft lost back in '07 and ended up having to offer a new system to every single owner. Ended up costing them over a billion dollars.

egggh. I feel your pain with the Xbox. After the 3rd broken one i sent it back with a note in the box saying keep the POS i'm buying a PS3. Been a over a year and not 1 single problem. PS3 is win.

Edit: Wish i had a link to the article I read, but it said Mircosoft willingly sold the 360s knowing that over 75% of them would break within a year. LAME.

I still play N64. I keep it hooked up in the apartment down at school. Most people notice that thing first when they walk in.

Knock on wood, but I have had my 360 for over 3 years with no major issues yet. I'll get occasional disc read errors, but the xbox used to live in my parent's basement which is FULL of pet hair, so I just run a cleaning disc through it once in a while and everything is good.

I keep it on it's side in my TV stand - plenty of space around it, and the shelf is open front and back. I also put small (~3/8") rubber feet on it to get more airflow underneath of it.

Now that my RROD warranty is up, I'm thinking about opening it up to give it a good cleaning inside.

And also I have been through 2 PS3's and are on a rebuilt one in the past 2 years. I am still on my original Elite without any issues. I am telling you from my personal experiance. I hate seeing all these sony lovers who say that the PS3 never breaks. It is more reliable then the 360 ( according to the numbers but not in my case) but never the less they still break and when they do break it costs alot to fix ( 119.00 to get serviced with a 39.99 shipping fee from sony if it isnt anything 2 major) if you didnt buy a extended warrenty.

I also said nothing about my Xbox having better picture then my PS3 what I said is the Netflix streaming comes in with better picture on my 360 vrs my PS3.

I understand everyone who has had to send in there 360's for a new one from MS. It sucks but at least it doesnt cost you anything. My 1st PS3 cost 500.00. That broke. Sony basically said sorry man your warrenty is up and you will have to buy a new one. I bought a used one from Gamestop with a 1 yr Warrenty on it. That one cost 400.00 with the warrenty included. The warrenty was up in July and my PS3 quit playing Movies/games 2 weeks ago. I had a hookup at Gamestop and my buddy got it fixed for 100.00 ( New DVD drive). So in the long run I have spent over 1000.00 dollars on my PS3's. Thats why I am a little angry with sony and the mighty PS3.

Just say **** it and get a Wii!
