If you had a 97 LT1 engine and 4L60E trans in a 1st or 2nd gen Camaro, what year ECM would you use for the programming? I know the 96-97 has OBDII if you really want those added features. Can you run the 94-95 ECM in a 96-97 motor easily? I know speed density would probably be the easiest to work with if you don't need all the OBDII emission's type stuff.

others that know more are going to chime in.. but right off the bat with a 97 engine you have obd II with the crank sensor on the timing cover and im sure there are other differences... 93 was the only year that used speed density on lt1's and i wouldnt run anything from 93. its like a 1 year motor almost haha... probably would be easiest to run a 96 or 97 pcm.... other chime in......... now

It terms of tuning, the OBDII would be easier to find people to work on it.

The 95 OBDI would be as low as I would go, same as the 96 and later minus the CPS and tuning.

I don't know how high you plan on revving it, but the OBDI stuff is limited to ~6800 whereas I think the OBDII can use the last fuel cell past that..

Also, pre 95 will be a different timing cover than the later OBDII ones and earlier SD stuff.

you could use a 94-95 ecm to operate a 96-97 motor with a little finessing. it would be a 96-97 ecm on an earlier motor that would cause issues with CPS. if i had a 97 comp, i'd stick with it.

If you have the harness stay with the same year ECM (96-97 should be the same). You just need to program out all the pollution and rear O2s. Also easy enough to delete the MAS and go SD. But if you go to an earlier ECM 94-95 I think you would need to change the pin configurations. I wouldn't bother going 92-93, no trans controls, batch fire. Too much extra work!

What are you buying? I got a nice aftermarket ECM designed for LT1s I'll sell you!

Jeff, it this car in Vegas? If so, PM me!
