Englishtown High tech import vs US muscle.... its usually a pretty good time

It will be my first time out for the 2010 season and I like to get some seat time before I go to an elimination event. I was thinking of going to Cecil for a T&T that day. I might recondsider and make the trek to Raceway anyway.

My reason for going to a T&T is to set the car up to the tree. I need a .500 pro tree to do this. I'm running points at Cecil this season and need to get the rollout dialed in there since this will be the first time for me running points at that track. Unless things changed for 2010 I already know the rollout at Raceway. Other side of the coin is that there isn't a payout for T&T. I do have 4 more dates to do the Cecil testing before points start there.

Can't find it online, but it was like 15 to spectate last time and 35-50 to race but you get stuff back for the rounds that you last

I'm putting this on my schedule. 2010 season opener with the Mustang. Payouts usually start out in the semi finals (4 cars left). I might be able to get the the $$$$ if I can keep away from the dreaded domestic pickup truck.

I might be out for this one after all. My driving foot is on IR for the next 6-8 weeks.

Good luck with your foot. I had foot surgery last August. Pins were in for 6 weeks and had to wait until they were removed to race. I couldn't pass tech with the open toe sandle even when it was wrapped with bandages and duck tape. I was amazed how much you actually use your toes, ankle, and knee on the gas pedel.

I may miss this one too. Mustang may be sold before the race date. :(

Ugh - import days are a nightmare - not going due to stupid ricer kids racing through the parking lot, higher than average break downs, and damn newbs

although the import races can be frustrating, I'll be there. it's probably gonna be my first ever bracket race with the camaro.

kazman
01-28-2010, 09:23 AM
James, the import races aren't as bad as they use to be. Non-racers are forced to parked outside the pit area. Car counts are down and you no longer see 450 imports and 50 domestic for the event. Security has improved to enforce the pit speed limit. Still you see some crazy stuff lol. It's still a nice payout for a win.

HW72, welcome to bracket racing . This event is a great place to start. I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have. I know it may be your first time with a camaro but not your first race. I usually pit near near the building at the finish line. I will either have a charcoal gray '07 Mustang or a '95 teal Formula.

Bird needs a little work to be ready to race. I made close to 400 passes in the '07 season and haven't gone over the car yet. I may have the mustang sold before March. I'm old and really don't want to be turning wrenches outside in the cold. It's just as much fun slowing the mustang to run 14.0's at 100mph or slowing the firebird to 12.0 at 118mph. Either car's win light bring the same smiles. At this point is't easier to just drive down in the stang.

I appreciate that. I'm normally by the top end building as well. By any chance is your name Dennis? It's very likely that you'd recognize me from the track. You're correct in thinking it might not be my first race, most of my experience has come in a white 2001 Malibu which had gone 15.6 in optimal conditions but mostly runs 16.1-2. I'm Harry7239 on the CorvetteForum.. have done 3 seasons in Real Street on Saturdays.

the ricer/muscle ratio is normally pretty even, except the faster classes tend to have more domestic cars. they stagger the racing where it's always an import vs a domestic until they run out of one or the other. for what it's worth, each round of eliminations will result in the import:domestic ratio being more in the domestics' favor.

i don't think there's any swap meet type of stuff, but occasionally there's a few vendors. most of the vendors come out of the woodwork for the import only/sport compact events though.

My name is Jim. I didn't race much last season. Ran street on Sundays 2 years ago with the mustang. I no longer have a vette and don't usually do the "fun" races at RP on Saturdays. I'm very interested in chatting with you about bracket racing. If its cold that day I will be hidding in the mustang sitting on the heated leather seat.

On a side note the imports may have a ringer this year. A 17 second honda. Guy just picked up the car last September, took it to the Div 1 finals and went 5 rounds in Pro. Was driving a black C4 prior to the honda. If he shows up he will be pitting on the right side of the finish line. Uses the building there as his personal car port.

His name is Frank Maffiore, he is an excellent driver and a great guy to talk to. He can win in anything, even his Toyota Minivan! He is the reason why I won in my Pick up.

Frank is a great guy. On the last day of points in the '07 season, I was feeling a bit upset after a disappointing day. Frank came over and told me I did a good job. Those words really ment a lot to me.

I actually lost to him in one of the Street Wars races last year, like 3rd round or something. He was .005 and ran dead-on. I was a conservative .080 stereotyping his car but I wasn't gonna run dead-on anyway. That sucked. lol

For the points brackets I usually set the car up for a conserative .020 and hold enought to make sure I can cross the stripe first. I either cross first by .010-.019 or dump in the box and give my opponent as much finish line as I can reel out. I had Frank 2nd round in street that last day of points in '07. We were both .019 and he was .02 over and I was .01 over for the win. I was holding .04 and backed into him on the top. I needed that win against him in that round and an overall win to knock him out of qualifing. I lost in the quarter finals of street by going -.010 red. Frank went to the Div 1 finals and I got a jacket. lol. I was also running pro that day (first time running pro in the stang). I was "hunting" Frank in street while all the runners were hunting me in pro. It's a tuff day when your round one opponent is Jim Young. Didn't get any easier competition. I mananged to get by Andrew Bracuto in round 4 again with a .020 and backing in to go dead on. Track announcer called that run the upset of the season. Winner of round 5 got the bye run for the semi finals and a trip to the finals. I was holding .02 on the dial. I was .021 on the tree to his .040 and fubared the run by missing my drop spot. I took stripe by .04ish and broke out by the .02 I was holding. I was a sad puppy sitting in the pits after that run. That's when Frank came over for a chat.

As long as the weather is nice, we'll be there. The wife will be making her racing debut! Since I will probably miss the first few weeks of points, I'm not signing up until the second half. I'm going to have her enter Street with the T/A.

The pony finally freed himself from the icy glacier. Ice and snow is slowly disappearing from around my neighborhood. I actually drove the car to work today. All I need to do is throw on the drag radials. Everything is still in the trunk from last season. I'm not looking at the forcast until Friday. Hopefully Saturday will be a go for racing.
