View Full Version : T-Tops or Convertable???

Wolfblitz

I need to know pro's and cons of both. Found 2 T/A's for the same price. Both Royal blue metallic. One is a convertable, one has t tops. Any info would be great.

Based on how annoying my t-tops leaking today were, I would go with either a hardtop or a convertable, t-tops suk. They rattle in the cold, leak in the rain and birds can still crap in the car if you leave them off!

Verts are gay and stalkers ride in them.

Ttops leak as pointed out.

Hardtops are FTW.

T-tops:
Pros
-chicks also dig
-best off both worlds
-looks better IMO
-lighter (i think)
-handles better (just made up) lool (but it makes sense)
-uhmmm can look thru it like a window? (chicks dig that) lol
-just plain retro cool
Cons:
-almost all leak dont care what u say (even a little)
-annoying to put on and take off
-can get very hot in summer when trying to take on and put off
-thats it

VERT
PROS:
-looks rad with top down
-chicks dig
-thats it.
Cons:
-never had one so dont read this so seriously
-ugly with top up
-can tear
-can get stained/dirty
-more moving parts to break
-ugly coolors like tan
-uhmmm more vonorable to theft? (can just cut thru?)
-thats all it got

:D

99.8 Percent leak you just have to find where the water goes. My t-tops arent like a waterfall like other people says about there's , but after a storm if you pull up the bucket seat you find that my carpet is a lil damp.

KirkEvil
01-25-2010, 09:49 PM
you should be looking at the pros and cons of the condition of the two cars in question.

then buy the one with t tops.

My windows leak not my t-tops I need to adjust them...you remember when I had the vert...Pure awosomeness!!! Well other than the lake in the back seat from the top drain that was clogged with pine needles. That top was down at all times no need for a/c, but I do like the t-tops as well they are nice you cant go wrong with either lol

Adam1978
01-25-2010, 09:51 PM
I would go T-Tops, verts have a lot of noise when driving down the highway with the top up, same with the top down but duh lol,
Although as you saw t-tops leak, however they are just so cool! Plus I believe the body is more rigid

Czop418
01-25-2010, 09:54 PM
Yea I agree with Kirk Evil. You should really doing more research about the car. If you could post up the ads for the both of them.

I'm not a fan of convertables at all. I'd take t-tops over anything, hardtop second, and I wouldnt buy a convertable. They just look akward compared to the smooth look of a hardtop. Get a convertable with some wear and it will leak worse than t-tops. The rattling would be annoying too.

Anti_Rice_Guy
01-25-2010, 10:02 PM
I'd take more into account than the type of top it has on it, for one thing.

That aside, if they were in the same condition.....*points to sig*

Unless you're going to have a biased race car where weight and rigidity really matters, I would go convertible.

The 95 is still on it's original top, not a single leak, ever. Can't say the same for our old t-top'd 92 Formula back when it was only 6 years old. Treat the top once in a while, and you're set. Top down cruising is unlike any other, whether or not you're trying to pick up chicks. T-tops are just convertible wannabes but don't have the balls to fully get one

Any other specific questions about convertibles you have, fire away. Also important to note...if you forget to latch a t-top it flies off and goes bye bye, possibly hitting your car or other cars. Convertibles don't have this issue, it simply goes back where it belongs if you don't latch it

if you take care of the weather stripping you really won't see a problem with leaking, i have had maybe a few droplets come through. That is only when im driving and the rain is being pushed from the wind as it follws the contour of the top of the window. You can also get the shades in the summe to keep some heat out.

never owned a vert camaro, but the vette that we have is rag it is cool having the top down, specially in the summer nights (but so is my camaro t-ttops) and you get a litte more attention. Not sure if the camaro rag tops are power but if not they can be just as annoying as having to put it down or up as the vette.

yet to see a girl who enjoys the rag top or the ttop, i alwayhs see them rolling up the window to stop there hair from blowing around.

IMHO i love my t-tops would never trade them for a vert or hard top.

The biggest downsides to a convertible is that wherever you park it, someone can cut the top to break into it in 1 second so you can't really leave anything in the car and you do have to be aware of where you're parking. And, eventually the top will start to wear out and you have that replacement cost. I've had about 4-5 first gen convertibles and it's cool for a weekend car, but a pita for a daily driver. The body will flex more and there is more road noise. Hardtop is the way to go, especially for a daily driver.

Convertibles are definitely FTW if it's a fun/weekend car. I only had my Sebring for 6 months before the wreck so I can't comment on winter driving/snow issues, but it only leaked a few drops in heavy rain.

none of the 4th gens ive encountered had leaking ttops. thirdgens like said before are another story. you cant go wrong either way. the convertible top really is nice though, unlatch and push a button...bam top down fun. ttops arent a big deal to take off either. most people are just lazy. takes 2 seconds.

Just to toss my two cents in...

My 1996 Camaro with T tops never leaked. Not even a little bit. But then again, I ordered it new, and no one else got to screw with it before me. Also, there are built in drain channels for water that gets past the outer seals, they need to be kept clean.

But if you look, a vert has a higher resale value, and are considered the preferred vehicle over t-tops in the automobile industry.

I think the best would be a vert with a removable hard top. Don't think anyone makes one, but it would be the best setup.

Convertibles are cool. I especially like the roof line and having a trunk, making the car a real coupe. Never did like the whole hatchback style. Camaro's and Firebirds were not created as hatch back's they were real coupes with trunks.

I was glad to see the hatchback design was dropped for the 2010 model.

in general (not a shot at the OP) a 5 year relationship for a 19 year is not something I'd hang my hat on. Their lives haven't really started yet.

I am not up to Paul's level yet!

Yes. Need a rollbar a lot sooner. He doesn't imply to be racing at the track, however, and it is easily remediated anyway.

You put a turbo on your V6 and you will have LS1 power at a 1/3 of the price of buying a T/A. The car will also weigh 300 lbs less then a TTop T/A and 400 lbs less then a Vert!!

I just have to ask. How did you get your 95 to dyno almost 300 rwhp with just a couple of mods?

Installed parts. Drove to dyno. Pull up to rollers, make 3 runs in 3rd gear, profit.

I do think it is slightly optimistic, yes, but that's what it said. Mustang dyno.

You have a freak of a car! Our Firehawk Dynoed in at 272 Rwhp. It basically has a Intake and Cat back from the factory.
