Today was the first I've heard of this... at first i was like uhhh.. :wtf:.. but, wow. BRILLIANT! really. I mean, im sure people are gonna jump on here apple this apple that boo hoo, but im not even excited because this is an apple product, i think its fantastic. everything my iphone can do just got a whole lot bigger, without the need to carry around a laptop. i like the idea that its like holding a book, sort of like those electronic book readers, but to a whole new dimension

There's an app for everything. Except for playing a .swf or .flv, apparently. Which means no youtube or anything of that nature.

As of 12:23 p.m., there’s no mention of FlashPlayer, a widely used software application missing on iPhone, much to disappointment of iPhone users. Movies and TV programs are immediately available, however, and rumors are the WI-FI access can be via Verizon or AT&T.

I misspoke. The iPad probably has some other type of Youtube support (like the iPhone) but doesn't have Flash, or a mention of it at this time.

The iPad is a 500+ dollar ipod touch....

It's like a really really cool laptop that can't multi-task, has minimal storage capacity, is twice the cost of my 15" laptop I'm using right now, no USB ports, and no expandability.

it's a gigantic iPod touch with almost the same memory. For the more than 4x size I should be getting more than 2x the memory. Besides at 2x the memory we are how many times the cost of a 32gb touch?

But it's apple, and they will tout the movie watching ability, I'm sure they'll get netflix on board so it will do well in the college student market.

It's not like you're gonna plug in your digital camera and try to upload pictures to that first.. the power adapter IS a USB cable so it transfers everything from your computer via USB.. i fail to see the need for an actual usb port on the device itself.

No USB port - For a device that claims to be perfect for almost anything, it is sort of sad to see it lacking a USB port (and when I say USB port, I don’t mean the pin connector). To me, simply adding one standard USB port would increase the functionality of the device in a great way. For example, with a USB port the iPad could plug into a disc drive and enable the user to watch videos via a physical disc. It would also make it much easier to import images from cameras instead of throwing down more money on an adapter. But most of all, it could allow Pages, Keynote, and Numbers documents to be loaded and saved to a USB drive and more easily shared with others. Instead, they now must be e-mailed around the cloud if you aren’t near the computer to which they sync.

No Cameras - While I’m sure we’ll see this in a future generation of the device, I was disappointed it wasn’t included in this one. With such a large screen, a front facing camera along with an app for it would be perfect for video conferencing. Furthermore, while it would be a little awkward to hold the whole device up to take a picture with a camera on the back, it’d be nice to have that decision. This could, for instance, be useful when adding a contact and wanting to take his picture for the address book. Furthermore, simple video editing could be made extremely fun and easy on this device if it had the ability to take video clips.

No HDMI Out - For a device with such a gorgeous screen, it seems as if you wouldn’t want to send the video it is playing somewhere else. However, HDMI out would be nice for those occasions in which you do need to do that. Since you can’t play video through a disc drive (it doesn’t have one), the only way is through stored files. It’d be nice to have a way to view those simply by plugging the device into a TV as well.

Still No Flash - While I know Apple claims that Flash can make browsers unstable and kill battery life, it should be on the iPad if it claims to be the best mobile browsing experience. Apple could’ve at least made it an option in the Settings.app to turn on or off at our discretion if they really hate it that much.

What about if someone says "Hey - here, can you pull up this document and make a quick change for me?" Or, "Look at these photos I took!" Or, "Here's the PDF I've been meaning to give you"

Since you said earlier you could stop lugging around your laptop if you owned this, I would assume it could actually do the things a laptop could.

that's just me though.
