I caught this article in the news. This is good news.

That's gonna be good for summer time. The one in Franklin is still a little bit of a drive from my area. This is like 5 minutes away.

I didn't realize how many of you were from Somerset, Middlesex, or Hunterdon county. I guess this would be the closest location, except for some who live in southern Middlesex and southern Somerset county. I look forward to seeing some f-bodies there from this website when it opens. I feel like I haven't seen anyone from this website in-person for a while now. Then again, it is freezing out and lots of snow.
It'll be a good summer for car enthusiasts. With many weekly car shows in our areas like Somerville on Friday nights, Manville on Thursday nights, and Flemington on Friday nights, car owners will have a place to go afterwards. I think even Somerset/Franklin has car shows where the old Rutgers theater used to be where the Stop'n'Shop is now. And the Colorado Cafe and the Perkins parking lot in Green Brook used to have car shows as well.

Yeah, theyres a few of us... Just nothing for any of us to do... Or none of the cars are all running at the same time.

There's this good burger joint by my house called 25 Burgers. It's right in Bound Brook across the street from ShopRite on Rt 28 near 287. Not much parking though. But a good place for car meets and they have good food.
I wish they'd open a Chic-fil-a in Somerset County some day. The closest ones are in Woodbridge and Menlo Park in the malls. This past summer, they made the best Peach milk shakes like Roy Rogers used to make. Why are the best things always limited time only?
Well, I hope to see you guys and your f-bodies at Sonics this summer on rt 22. I'll be there.

the grease trucks meets were always fun that i went to, its only a few minutes from there. ive never heard of them in that stop and shop parking lot but if they are all local kids i bet its all rice.

The problem I always had with the Grease trucks parking lot was that my car always bottomed out really bad when I would enter and leave the lot, and it seems like they made that concrete divider at the entrance/exit even tougher to maneuver around. But it is a good meeting spot nonetheless.
The funny thing about the Stop'n'Shop parking lot is that is was vintage cars. The imports meet in the Dunkin Donuts and Taco Bell parkings lots across the street further down. I am not sure what days or if they even do shows there anymore, but I do remember a some vintage American cars meeting at Stop'n'Shop a few years back. The Colorado Cafe also had a meet.

Let do a Sonic meet on Tuesday, March 2nd? That way hopefully the crowd there would die down some so we could all park together.

Yeah, I am glad finally a worthy place has opened in that spot. For as dumpy as Bound Brook is getting, I am happy to see something good come into town. It's also at such a busy intersection too which doesn't help. But Sonics could be good.

i love 25 burgers. LETS GO! I work in Somerset. Sonic is kind of recently nostalgic for me, I used to drive to the 2.5 hours to delaware and PA before the one in south jersey opened. Then drove the 2 hours there. Now the 40 minutes to Franklin. The one in green brook is gonna be an easy 15 minute straight shot down 22, I cant wait.

This snow has got to go already. It's getting in the way of things. Well, so much for that news article. With any luck, they'll open next week when the weather is supposed to be better and warmer. At least we are getting in the low 40s nowadays. We have high 30s I think tomorrow and Thursday, but then it's supposed to be in the 40s after. It was so nice last night, my girlfriend and I went walking outside. And we're both not winter cold weather people.
I just wish they'd open a Chic-fil-A closer to Bridgewater. I am not a big fast food person, but Chic-Fil-A and sonics are my fast food joints of choice. I could really go for one of their tasty chicken sandwiches right now. Chic-fil-a made the best Peach Milkshakes last summer just like Roy Rogers used to make. I miss Roy Rogers too.

I wonder if they are still planning to build one on rt 22 near Lebanon.
If I had the money and the means, I'd open a Sonics on rt 18 or somewhere near Englishtown RaceWay Park, or up by Island Dragway (but they got Hot dog Johnnys), or somewhere in Woodbridge on rt 1.

I do not believe so. The people in the town hated the idea, and were rude to the people in Flemington about it. Shame, because that part of 22 is a waste of space.

That is a shame. A Sonics would have be great in that area. One of my friends is from High Bridge, NJ near Glen Gardner. I think he is one of those people that are against any building any bit west of Bridgewater. Some people just really like it quiet and quaint in their surroundings I guess. But you're also right, that part of 22 is a waste of space. There is really nothing redeeming on that stretch of 22 except for a Quick Chek, a Dunkin Donuts, Cryans, and that golf course range. Otherwise, nothing.

There's a smattering of small businesses (used to be a race fabrication shop called RaceWeld out there), but also some boarded up old buildings and just old crap.

I apologize not mentioning Polar Cub as being worthwhile. That place has the best ice cream. I am surprised F-body owners don't meet there. I know parking is at a premium there, but it depends on what time of day and what day you go. Polar Cub is like the only reason I travel to that area of Rt 22. That and going hot air ballooning out there.
Is that RaceWled place the place on rt 22 traveling eastward that used to sell nitrous oxide refills?

Polar Cub is awesome. Used to go there a lot as a kid.
You are thinking of Driver's FX (used to be Kar Parts). It's still there, and is a great auto store. The best in the area IMO.
No, this place is westbound, used to build frames, chassis, etc until one of the owners died.

Yeah, I hope that place never closes. They can build a Baskin Robbins, Coldstone Creamery, or what ever right next door and that wouldn't have any effect on Polar Cub. The place is a gold mine in the summer. I see some cars from Somerville stop there after the show on Friday nights. It just gets a little annoying when there are groups of kids there because of sports, karate, scouts, etc.. But then again, places like that are meant for kids and it's nice to know kids still do that stuff. lol.
Yeah, Driver's FX is what I was thinking about. I've can't think of the other place you mentioned, but I bet if I drove by it, I'd recognize it instantly.
Anyone been by rt 22 in Green Brook like in the last few days? I haven't had a chance to drive by there lately and I wasn't sure if they finally opened their doors yet.

I am so happy they are finally coming into NJ now. Like Cracker Barrel and other franchises, it took a while.
Does anyone miss Roy Rogers at all? I know I do. Now they have these poor excuses for a location on major interstate rest stops. At least there is Chic-Fil-A.

Yeah, I guess that's kind of old school. I'm a nostalgic person like that. lol. The Roy Rogers I used to go to used to be right on rt 22 in Bridgewater, but on the Somerville side of the highway. A Boston Market eventually went in its place and now I don't think anything is there anymore.
What Roy Rogers location did you used go to?
I think there used to be a Roy Rogers on rt 1 near South Brunswick as well. I never knew until recently that they used to be owned by the Marriott Hotel Corporation. I miss their peach and strawberry shakes. Best I ever had. Chic-fil-a comes a close second though.
I remember when Ponderosa Steak houses used to be everywhere too. They had good sirloin steaks. I am glad places like Polar Cub and Hot Dog Johnnys are still around.

The Boston Market in Flemington was the Roy's. We had a Ponderosa where the Wawa is on 31. It was a Ponderosa, then a liqour store, then the building was flattened and built up into a Wawa.

Heh, I never knew that. I've been going out to the Flemington circle area my whole life and I don'tremember seeing the Roy Rogers there. I definitely know of the Boston Market you are talking about though.
Yeah, I hate how good places like these go away. I don't even understand what happened to cause Roy Rogers to downsize and close so many locations like they did. Same thing with Woolworths and Ponderosa.
I think that's why I am so happy to see a Sonics coming to our area. I am so tired of seeing more and more McDonalds and Burger Kings going up everywhere. Like we need more them. lol. McDonalds now stands where Roy Rogers was on rt 22 across from the Commons Mall.

Nice. I drove by there yesterday in the Camaro since it was so nice out. Looks like most of the snow is gone by now. Nothing that should stop them from paving. It's kind of tucked away off rt 22. When I was trying to find where it was, it caught me off guard because it sits further back than the buildings on both sides of it.

Boy, I hope they are done by now. They had 4 great days back to back to work on things.
So because it isn't done yet, I drove all the way down below Toms River on this past beautiful Saturday, exit 80 off the GSP, to go to Roy Rogers. lol. It turns out their milk shakes aren't the same as how they used to be. They tasted more fake than McDonalds. No real fruit in the Strawberry milkshakes like they used to have. Thus, another childhood memory lost in reality. They did make a real good and tasty grilled chicken sandwich though and the place was surprisingly packed. It was an actual restaurant location and not in a rest stop. At least I don't have to spend anymore time wondering whether I was missing out on something good. But it made for a nice drive in the Camaro on a warm and sunny day.

03-23-2010, 12:27 PM
Cool. That shouldn't be a problem. I think most of the restaurant staff for restaurants on rt 22 are high schoolers or kids just out of high school. I know Carabba's has a mostly young service staff, as does that Hoagie hut place, and Bonefish grill. So I could only assume there'll be some kids around to hire.
