View Full Version : Ebay headers ?

Originally I was looking into getting Pacesetter LT headers for this upcoming spring (either painted and coat them myself or get coated ones). But I did some searching around and found some decent stainless steel LTs w/ y-pipe on ebay for a fair price (brand new).
I did note that the Pacesetters seem to be quite easy to install, would I be looking at clearance problems/fitting issues buying from like an ebay company? It does say no modification required so I assume they would be similar..
Also would ebay SS last for a decent amount of time? Im not worried if they turn colors from heat.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

some people have had great luck with them, some haven't. there's an ebay set thats nearly identical to LPP's but even still people have issues with real lpp's so i wouldn't expect them to slide right in and tuck right up. a couple notable issues would be steering column clearance, passenger side k member clearance, and hvac box clearance i believe. just gotta roll with the punches IMO

There are several "Ebay" SS headers. I bought a used set for my LS1 and mine are actually made by LPP now. They are T321 stainless and are better quality than the other T304 or T409 stainless headers. But any of them will most likely last longer than the Pacesetter coated headers. The quality seems to be pretty good too so they should fit ok. Like any headers, they might come close to the floor and you should probably do your motor mounts to prevent the engine twist from allowing the headers to hit the floor or a-arm.

Looking back on mine, I would much rather have had the extra headache getting a set of ebay SS headers in than deal with crappy coated pacesetters...

If you dont care about the brand, Summit headers are the same as Pacesetter headers just cheaper. I had a customer ask what makes Pacesetters better than Summit for the price. So, I called Pacesetter for the customer and they told me Summit headers are actually Pacesetter. Summit just buys them in large quantities prior to Pacesetter marking them as their own. So I lost a sale, but gained some knowledge and got the respect of the potential customer by telling him the truth.

i look at summit as the walmart of the automotive aftermarket.

Summit mufflers look to be Dynomax mufflers probably ordered in bulk. But when it comes to stainless headers vs coated, go with the stainless if the price difference isn't insane.

Looking at these headers CLICK HERE (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1993-1997-CHEVROLET-CAMARO-LT1-HEADER-Y-PIPE-94-95-96_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem2c50a1ec46QQitemZ190 331350086QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAcces sories#ht_2459wt_939)
Seller said it comes w/ everything pictured. That would mean headers, y-pipe, gasket, and clamps.
My question is, aside from what I listed, what else would I need for longtubes? They're obviously not emission headers so no air/egr
Anybody ?? Thanks!

A lot of patience... look at that clearance for spark plugs... geez...
Dirt cheap though, but I dunno, they look like a pain.
And you would want spark plugs, gaskets, block plate for EGR, poly motor mounts, I would get locking header bolts, and new spark plug wires.

Okay, how about these OPTION 2 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CAMARO-FIREBIRD-TRANS-AM-93-97-V8-LT1-HEADER-Y-PIPE_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem3caa5fe4feQQitemZ2 60556449022QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAcc essories#ht_2352wt_998)

Hmnn driver side 02 may be a bit tough going through the floor board...
And just going out on a limb here, call me crazy, but I would say all those options you just posted are the same headers, different vendors...

just so you dont feel bad... i bought a set of new lpps off a guy that hadnt installed them yet... and i paid about $600 for them shipped... now they are great quality... but i had a bunch of problems fitting them... i had to clearance one primary for the k-member and i still have to mess with getting the steering column to clear good... so im just letting you know that if you get them and have problems your not in the boat alone... weve all been there... just be patient and work your way through the hick-ups... all cars are different so its nearly impossible to make one set of headers fit every single lt1 out there... just not going to happen..

Not crazy at all I just realized that  They seem like there is clearance to get plug wires in there no ?
And what do I do w/ the o2 sensors ? extend them ?

Passenger side looks dicey...
And for 02s, you should get new ones, and IMO buy 12inch 02 harness extensions.

But if I tune them out, whats the point? They're going to throw codes anyway right?
And where did you get your tune from?

The common O2s to "tune out" are the rears, not the fronts. The fronts control your air/fuel mix, while the rear(s) just basically check to make sure your cat(s) is(are) working properly.

the pic posted above is the lpp replicas. there is no issue with the o2 bung on top.

Oh my bad wasn't thinking straight for a second thanks for the clarification though :-P
Where can I get a good tune from ? Is a pcmforless or madtuner any good ?
Im thinking I just want to clear the codes and make it run good, not so much lookin to squeeze power out of it

Please turn your man card in at the door. :|
 Hit up Whiplash or any of the other sponser tuners, I am sure they can set ya straight.
PCMforless means at least a week of down time..

Looked at Whiplash and HPTuners, I only saw 98+ cars :|
Where'd you get your tune matt?

Primary Tube Size is 1 3/4 Inch Diameter, 3 Collector Diameter, 16-gauge stainless steel, 3/8" flange

You can get O2 sims for the rear O2's to keep the computer happy but it won't optimize power like a tune will. And if you don't keep the EGR then you need a tune for that as well.

Found these, also read a good write-up (http://www.ls1lt1.com/forum/showthread.php?t=28619) on them
No complaints of modifications needed, kinda leaning towards these
Note there are no EGR hookups these are race style headers as the buyer says

Keep in mind that these cars weren't designed with headers in mind, so no matter what header you install you're going to run into a few issues. :) I have a set of the LPPs on my 383.
There is no problem with the O2 being directly on top as it is located forward of the floorboards.
Some folks have complained about steering column clearance. This is an EASY fix. Simply loosen the three bolts holding the column to the firewall and move the column so it clears. I had to do some VERY MINOR grinding of the steering shaft to clear them, but other than that it's a very minor problem.
You will need to delete the low oil level sensor as well as there is no room to plug the harness connector in. I opted to leave the sensor in there and just leave it unplugged. Remove the bulb from the dash and you're set. ;)
Overall, plug access is good, and the gains are great. For the price, they are legit.
I've been using PCMforless.com for 10 years now with zero complaints.
Good luck. :)
