Bought a new leftover snow thrower two winters ago after nursing along a 20 year old Torro machine. So glad I did. Not only did the new machine make clearing snow a snap, but the old motor will be used to build a go-kart or mini-bike for my daughter.

Most people around me have monster machines, but I chose a relatively small one. Ariens 5524. Its 24" wide, two stage, 5.5 hp. Just the right size for what I have to do.

Also have one of those bucket shaped snow shovels with the S handle. What a great shovel that is!

Still takes about an hour to clear everything, but having a snow thrower makes it bearable.

What do you guys use?

I bought a 24" Troy Built about 3 weeks ago before the other 2 storms. I've used it 5 times already so it was definitely worth it. I've been shoveling snow for 30+ years and it was time for a snowblower.

I bought a used plow last May for $175 because well, it was May. Came in extremely handy this year. I also have an older Toro 421 that I bought for $25. The guy couldn't get it started so sold it for the price of scrap, little did he know he forgot to turn the gas lever to "on"

I just got done using our 25 year old little John Deere yard tractor with a snowblower attachment. However, that thing is really beginning to show its age this year. We sit ~800 ft off the road and we have another lane to plow thats about 300 ft long so there is usually quite a bit of snow removal where we live now and the little tractor isnt cutting it. Our big tractor got stuck (because of the crappy tires it has) in the storm a few weeks ago where we had 27" plus the 12 that was already on the ground. I think the free jeep i got is going to become a plow vehicle for next winter.

can't you get chains for the tractor?

Yeah, the little one has them, but big one doesnt (it needs tires bad) but for my dad down the road when I may not be here to help him, it will be much easier to have a jeep that is enclosed, 4wd and warmish...compared to a 2wd tractor in the elements. Not to mention its a lot easier just to charge a battery and do preventative maintenance on a jeep than to put chains and a plow on and off a tractor.

The lines on the cabs make me think they're Russian.

I with you on that. I have shoveled my last bit...8hp 22/24 Ariens in my future. Neighbor and I are going to split it. 30 inches up here shoveled by hand. I got 6 ft walls lining my driveway to the street...
