so i get out of work a few weeks ago in a hurry because i had to go somewhere and i start the truck and look out my windsheild and theres a note on it. i assumed its one of my friends writing a stupid note for fun so i go out and read it and its by some woman who hit my truck so now im like wtf! i go check out the damage and its a foot long black streak, a scuff on my tow hook and cracked ezpass(the one that mounts to the liscence plate). im like great and drive off to where i gotta go. after i finished up and got home i tried buffing it out with compound and i got most of it out except for about 3" of scattered spots. so i call the woman and she was nice about it and says get a quote and give me a call. so a week or so goes by and i finally go to the body shop and get the estimate. the guy says he could try and buff it out but thinks its gunna need a repaint for about $350 so i call the woman back and suddenly she wasnt so sweet. i tell her the quote and shes like thats way too high its only a scratch and she wants her husband to see the damage. so more time goes by and i got a second opinion from another shop who wants $500 to do it. so today the husband comes by looks at it and tries to downplay it and say its only a scratch. now i dont know about you guys but i really do enjoy my vehicles and try to take the best care i can on them so any scratch nick or dent really pisses me off. so he leaves and says i dont know what im gunna do & he will call me in two days. so here i am now waiting for this idiot to " see what he's going to do". (Oh and on a side note my truck is a solar yellow dodge ram 1500 which you can see from a mile away!!!) ill keep you guys posted on how this plays out.

she hit it, she has to pay to fix it, end of story. If they give you enough crap, maybe report it as a hit and run?

Call her and tell her you are going to the Police Station to get a report and you will be filing it through her Insurance. She doesnt want to pay the $350, she can pay her deductible and 3 years of surcharges. You have a hand writen note with her contact info, you should have no problem doing that. Good Luck.

I dont think you would even have to go through all that. I would just go to the Police and write a report and this way she knows you are serious. Everyone thinks body work is cheap, the problem is people are cheap. They dont understand the process of what needs to be done to get that to look factory again. This is why Im glad the nicest car I own is in an enclosed trailer 80% of the time!

im going to give her the two days which will put us @ friday if they keep beating around the bush ill go to the police. she works at the hospital too so ill also bring it up to her supervisor if that will help move things along. i hear you on the paint work thought most people dont even know the first thing about it.

She hit it she has to pay, be as nice as you can but don't go soft, you have no fault in this.

Exactly, the "ill see what i wanna do" comment is complete bs. He and his wife have no choice in the matter. They are going to fix it or you threaten/do go to the police.

Why would his insurance go up for something that he had nothing to do with. It was hit in a parking lot..

just be nice and tell her you can pay the $350ish straight up or you can go through her insurance and she can pay even more. it should be reason enough. if not, just fuggin do it

I wouldn't wait around for them, it's not your fault she hit your truck. You got the two estimates, tell them to pay or your going to report it.

--edit
May be better off just reporting it. What happens if they give you the money, you take it to the body shop and then they find other damage. They are giving you the run around now just imagine what they'll do when you tell them about additional cost.

I don't even know why you would give it some thought, as soon as she would of said thats too high i would of let her know that that's what insurance is for, and that youll be talking with them if it's such an inconveniance ( i know I spelled that wrong, I don't feel like looking it up) and they can take care of it from there, would of saved you alot of time.

i talked to security at work today which informed me that police report needs to be made within 2 days. im not sure how true that is but if i need to make one i will find out. as for the money its been a few weeks i can wait one more day. and i didnt call the cops in the first place because i had no time to wait around because i was in a rush to go somewhere. so we shall see what happens tomorrow

She hit you car plain ans simple she pays to fix it the end do what you have to, to get the money. One of my "friends" backed into my car on a Saturday and he didn't tell me till school on Monday. I was livid he said I'll pay for some of it...no no sir you will pay for all of it friend or not you damaged my car your paying for it. I would have paid for his had I backed into it. People suck.

So they gave you a deposit on the full amount of the estimate? I'm glad that it seems like they are gonna come through, but I prolly wouldn't have taken the truck to get fixed until they had paid the full amount of the estimate.

well i was afraid of them not paying the shop, so i brought it up to the shop owner and he said its between him and them and he said he was not worried. i didnt ask more than that so he either trusts them or made a cotract or something

Ok, so the shop is dealing directly with the person that hit you. Good stuff.

That's good to hear Mike! I've had my car hit before and nobody left a note.
