Detail underside of car?

Anyone paint the parts that rust under the car, like the rear axle housing? While working on the car this past month, I noticed it would not be hard to paint the axle housing black (rustolium). I know no one will see it, I just don't like rust!

I figure to spray the pumpkin with some degreaser, hose it off, and when dry spray it.

i painted my 10 bolt the first time it broke but stopped cause it seemed like a waste since they break so easy, but i sanded it down with rough paper and used rustoleum primer, paint and, rust inhibitor

i rustproofed and undercoated most of the underside of my car and im getting my new rear powdercoated before it goes in

still looks the same as when i first cleaned and painted it. i think it was worth it and i got a few complements about it.

I've had pretty good results with Rustoleum professional clean metal primer and semi-gloss black. Holds up great and is pretty inexpensive.

I don't know if the term detailing is right, but it's generally clean. I will wipe stuff down if I'm under the car, but I don't go kooky cleaning it. But if a part is out I'll clean it up.

If his existing metal is too clean it will peel. Even if you prep the surface with Metal Ready. :-?

POR 15 products work decent. I’ve used it on everything brake calipers to frames with nice results. I even painted an old wheel barrow just to use up some opened product. Their started kit should more than cover the rear axel.

I agree to both. It needs clean, bare, rough metal to adhere to properly.

One 4oz can will cover a rear. Strangely enough, the rear is where I have had some por15 peeling on this car. And I scrubbed and cleaned and etched, the housing was out of the car.

i've had almost my entire interior floor pan done for a couple months now and its been fine. it had only a couple quarter size surface rust spots that i wanted to take care of. i'll be sure to watch it like a hawk now though. i think if the area gets to hot it peels :-?

POR15 is great. I did the rear on my old 6er and for 2 years till i just sold it it looked great. drove it year round. Did the entire front frame on the firebird and yes even with metal ready it has peeled in some spots, where i use the jack stands.

it depends how hot it gets i guess. not sure what por15 is rated to so can't really say. plus the old turn down on the cutout helps 8-) have yet to tackle the underside :|

600 degrees max. UV and no tooth is the bitch.

If you know somebody in the body shop business, you might look into getting the entire undercarriage sprayed with a rubberized material that comes out of a special gun under pressure. It looks like black wax when it dries and covers everything in a nice smooth texture that really looks good on a street car. Its a form of rust proofing so it will also protect anything it covers. You might want to wire brush all the loose rust off first and any remove any oil residue. Take of your rear wheels and do the fender wells also. It drys in about 1/2 hour and a little Prep-Sol will remove any overspray where you don't want it.

I spray painted all 4 of my Rear ends that broke. Keeps them from looking like **** even though they are already POS'S
